in 1989 the massacre happened. Seems as if no one remembers.

Sad thing is, seems that with the way the whole terrorist thing is going, it's starting to feel like that. Civil rights trampled by a government because it'll make people feel safer...

Imagine what would have happened if about half of the Chinese had/kept their rifles after their 'Red' revolution.

Pretty easy to oppress your populace when the govt has the only weapons around.

I remember, but do the Chinese people remember? Mass killings are not such a unique event in Chinese history. The present rulers and educational system aren't that different from historical norms. I cancelled my first trip to China due to T.S. and never rebooked. I protested outside of the San Francisco Chinese Consulate for days. In truth, the Chinese people are use to a powerful central state and do not have a history of individual freedom. I just pray that we trade with them rather than end up in war. Only time will tell.

Trade with them, but at what cost? The rights of the Fulan Gong? The rights of 23million Taiwanese nationals?

With TS, they called in the Army from another neighboring area to kill the protesters, as the group that was supposed to "disperse" them would not go out and kill their neighbors.

Trade with them? Haven't you read the stories about Norinco, which is a company with strong ties to the Chinese military, and one of the biggest Chinese companies that the US trades with.

I'm afraid that some of the profits that Norinco makes is used to buy Silkworm missiles that would be aimed/fired at sailors and marines on US aircraft carriers near Taiwan!

I still think that we will eventually be fighting the Chinese. Remember the incident with our aircrew that their fighter pilot crashed into? And they were not allowed to leave the country, and the Chicoms are still asking $1million for putting them up in Hotel Gulag.

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot it was today.

I remember Tianamen. Back in the day, it was one of the first splashy uses of a reporter with a satellite phone. I watched the thing live, and I'll never forget it.

The image on the screen was a map of Beijing around the square, and a picture of the correspondent, who was hidden somewhere along the edges of the square.

"The soldiers are maneuvering at the far end of the square, herding the protestors. It looks like they're....I hear tanks. Lots of them. I'm leaving."

Humanity lost a lot on that day; Not so much in terms of loss of life, which was bad enough, but in loss of possibilities for a whole generation of a largish chunk of the planet.

We must pause to remember that sometimes, progress stops and recedes, battles are lost, and darkness comes.

It can happen. Take heed.

Just another day in the lives of several sheep and a very few mean vengful wolves. If they try on Taiwan they won't like the result. It will all be in their back yard.

Haven't you read the stories about Norinco, which is a company with strong ties to the Chinese military, and one of the biggest Chinese companies that the US trades with. Two things:

1. Norinco [North China Industries] is wholly-owned by the Chinese gov't/military.

2. They have been slapped with a sanction...no trade for two years; estimated to cost the Red Chinese company $200-300 million and to help our trade imbalance. A big kudos to the current administration for banning their imports as a likely-effective deterrent.

If you want those cheap copies of the Winchester M97 or Ithaca M37, buy 'em now...there won't be any more for awhile...but, ...

A personal note: I will not buy Chinese firearms from dealers...no use rewarding the commies. If it's on the used market, no problem, as that can't put any more money in the commies' coffers.
