No side effects.....sure.....

The Japanese had something like this in WWII, very expirimental, with a range of like 50 feet, but everything in the 50 feet would be down or dead.

They tested it on "monkeys", aka, humans.

Microwave technology is pretty dangerous, you can mess someone over very well with them.

Agreed. People always seem to find a use for it that fits their needs.
I was talking (years back) one time to an electronics engineer (bell helicopter) about microwave technology. It being used for electrical distribution (power for homes). Interesting idea, I thought at the time. No wires needed to be elevated above ground level (on poles) or needed to be buried below ground, which is done much today.
Only thing is the cost value (high), to do this kind of technology.
