How does the SW Scandium Government carry compared to a standard 1911? I know its 10+ ozs lighter but was curious how that will relate to 8 hour days in quality leather.

I have and carry a Bobtailed S&W Scandium commander and have carried my Springfield GI-45, full size and weight. The difference is remarkable, especially after a long time of carry, like all day. I carry both in a Brommeland Max Con V holster so the only difference is size and weight. At the end of the day I am barely concious of the Scandium Commander but very aware of the load of the GI-45. The S&W shares my carry duties with a pocketed Kimber Ultra Carry II and the GI-45 is my stand by gun if the S&W is out of commission but probably soon to be replaced by my Taurus PT1911.

I'm in L.A. so I don't carry but I have marveled at the difference in handling between a full-size all-steel 1911--I have a Kimber and a Sistema--and the S&W Scandium Commander in terms of balance and pointability. The weight difference per se may only be 10 oz. or so but in relation to typical arm and wrist strength it is quite noticeable. Lifting the pistol or swinging it from side to side you feel as if you have a different kind of gun altogether, more Glock (in weight) than 1911.

Any comparisons in terms of felt recoil?
