I've been looking on gun broker for a Galil ARM with the wood foregrips, the price is really sturdy (3000 dollars and up) and I've been looking into clones possibly. Does anyone have any experience with them? Are they worth it? I'm looking at one on atlanticfirearms by Ohio Rapid Fire for 1400 dollars.

Theres another one going for 1295 by Hesse Hegal anyone heard of them?

My understanding is that ORF is on their 3rd generation of receivers for their clones. Century is supposed to be offering one for around $800. The ORF would deffinately be a good rifle, the century ones are usually good if they're good, but really bad if they're bad--going from FAL experience here. In all fairness, the word is the Century guns are only being sold by them and built by someone else.

800? Where can you buy them? I've never seen a galil clone go for 800 with the exception of AK47's using Galil furniture (which really isn't a galil at all)

The price is tempting but I don't think i'm going to purchase it.

I'll probably buy the receiver from century and a parts kit online (if I can find one), and send it to a gun smith to build. How much do IMI receivers run? It would be nice to have an original though i'm guessing they are a lot of money these days.

I am 90% sure they have some with "minor flaw"for $250.

May I humbly suggest as an alternative the Daewoo DR200 rifle? It's kinda a galil clone since the Koreans used the gas operating system in their design (while adopting the M16 bolt carrier group). Also uses AR magazines.

It is available complete (you don't have to mess around with building it) for under $1000.

A very reliable and fun rifle to shoot. More have been used by the ROK armed forces than the Galil was ever issued by the IDF.

I saw one of the new Galils at the gun show in Cave City, Kentucky last Saturday. The dealer had $999 on it.

I didn't give it a really good look-over, but it seemed solid enough.

I've looked at the Daewoos. Nice rifles. The only reason I haven't picked one up is the lack of spare parts. As I understand, only a few of the parts (other than the magazines) are compatible with an AR and only a couple of the other parts are made domestically. Darn shame, really.

There is no free lunch, especially in the world of Galils. Do you want to spend 800 bucks on a Century crap shoot where you are about as likely to get a rifle that doesn't work as one that does? For a little more money, around $1100-$1200 you can get a gun built by someone that cares about the product they put out.

My Galil receiver and parts have been sent to AZEX Arms, and are awaiting assembly. His reputation is good, and I know the finished product will be better than anything from Century. :barf:

The truth is the ORF receivers often have a few minor dimensional issues that need correcting if the gun is to work properly. This means sending the gun to a professional if you want professional results.

The dimensional problems you're talking about is probably the fact that ORF Galils wouldn't take Orlites because the mag catch was about .040" forward of where it should have been. That was in 2006, however, and I believe all current ORF Galils have that flaw fixed and can take all Galil mags and STANAG mag adapters, as was stated in another forum I frequent.

Also, the radius cut on the side of the receiver near the ejection port is cut wrong and needs to be opened up, otherwise the bolt carrier cannot go into battery. My point is that I want someone who knows what they are doing to have a look at the receiver instead of just grabbing the next one out of the box and slapping it together assembly line style.

My brother in-law bought an ORF receiver in late '06 and a kit from Military Gun Supply. He had a local smith build it for him. It takes Orlites and steel Galil mags without a problem. STANAG mag adapter was made to fit the receiver, but has proven to be completelly unreliable in our case. The adapter locks in fine, and the AR mags go in without a problem, but it seems that the mag still sits too low for the bolt to strip the top round. IMO, for the price of the adapter, you can buy a couple of Galil mags, so it isn't worth it.

I have no plans to buy from Century.

I am buying the Ohio Rapid Fire receiver, probably get some sort of parts kit from Century or on gunbroker and then ship it off to AZEX to get it built/refinished.

What i am looking for is a Galil ARM handguard (Wood), not those plastic ones. If I can't find one then I guess I will have to ask a friend if he can make me one based on the dimensions.
