These are older production CVA #11 brass caps that were made in Italy, possibly in the 90's.
The black primer material also contributes to them having an uncommon appearance.

Does anyone recall shooting these or any other similiar Italian or brass caps and how did they fire?
Does anyone think that brass caps might become more common in the future if they work as good as copper ones and were more economical to buy? :rolleyes:

I recently bought a blue tin of very similiar caps, made in Italy, unlikely name, "Coach and Horse" I think! I cant be sure of that because I had to destroy the tin (Injuring myself in the process - how embarrassing!) to get the lid off.
They look relatively unfinished, but its down to function and I havent tried them yet. I just thought I'd try different caps to see if they behaved differently after shooting. The first box I ever had neatly split and dropped out the side every time without fail. This is a level of performance I have never managed to match since :(

The CVA caps have been around since the 70's. They were usually the ones sold on a peg board so you didn't have to ask at the counter for them. My opinion is that they are not as hot as the German or CCI caps.

CVA sold different brands of caps under their name. These are stamped "CCI" as shown at 11:30 in the picture, and have always fit and worked very well in my rifles despite other's complaints about some currently made CCI caps.
DaveP (UK), if your brass caps also had thicker walls, maybe that's what caused them to split open more neatly?

Back in the day, if nothing else were available, I would buy the CVA caps. They were pure junk. The last tin(black pastic) I had, on many of the caps the fulminade would just fall out , the ones that had fulminade in them seemed to work ok. I would not trust a hunt with those. I use CCI or Remington now. I do miss those inexpensive little CVA kit guns though, they got me and many other nimrods into muzzleloading.

Apologies for the careless wording.
From the outset I have been using caps made by RWS / Dynamit Nobel. A copper shell with a bright green contents. Size 1075, which I understand is between 10 and 11. (I can't for the life of me remember which is bigger!)
These were the ones that seemed to do so well initially.

I've just been up to the attic/gunroom (!) and discovered that in the excitement of staunching the leaking bodyfluids the tin from the brass cap was left in my box. Coach Harness caps by Fratelli Summonte. Unfluted brass shells with black contents, Size 11. Still untried. They were about 10c cheaper for 100.
