Anyone recommend a good S&W revolver gunsmith in the Phoenix area? I know Nelson Ford does a good jot but $139 for an action job seems steep to me. Is that the going rate? Any good ones out there for less? Thanks.

Welcome to the world of "If you want to play, you got to pay". That is the going price around the country for that type of work. I remember when Nelson got started in Phoenix and wish we had a shop that good here in Anchorage, Alaska. Bite the bullet and pay the man!

IMHO, Nelson's the best. I don't have S&W wheelguns, but he keeps my M1911's ticking along better than anybody I have ever found, in Phoenix or not. If it takes him four hours to do the job, that's only $35 an hour and he has to keep up his shop, licenses, etc. You probably pay your auto mechanic a flat rate of $60 per hour and if he doesn't do it quite right, mostly the only thing that happens is that your car won't start.
