Hey All,

I bought a 98% k-38 s/n 112*** through Gun Broker for $275.00. I picked it up from my ffl yesterday, took it to the range today. There is really no point to this thread other than to just say I love this gun! That's all I really had to say.
I think I'll still full of adrenaline.

We do not believe you bought a revolver unless you post pictures for us to lust over. Besides that, the M15 is my favorite revolver. Regards, Richard:D

Sorry I can't post a picture. Another gun always seems to take precedence over a digital camera. Maybe someday.

Could anyone give me a DOB for this thing. Old Fuff perhaps.

275 for a pre-15 is a STEAL, felony type stealing of massive proportions!!!!!!

The bad thing is now that you have it nothing else will compare, I have yet to find something I like to shoot more than a K38 4".

Opposed to the 686 thread, I think the K frame Combat Magnum has to rank as at least ONE of the best .357s. :D And you stole it. :D

Edit to correct post. Masterpiece is, of course, a .38. Still, fanstastic guns an I almost have one, just shy an adjustable sight. :D

I think you posted the wrong number. The serial number is stamped on the bottom of the butt, and should have the letter "K" in it. The other number, stamped on the frame behind the yoke, (112*** ) is most likely an assembly number.

You may have to remove the stocks to see the serial number. Look at them on the inside and you may find them serial numbered to the gun.

Hello Fuff,

That is the correct serial number. I just left the K out. Serial number is K1125**

Thanks

Well that "K" makes a big difference... :D

Your revover was manufactured in 1951 - that would make it a K-38 Combat Masterpiece (pre-model 15). This revolver was introduced in 1949, and first cataloged in 1950.

K112XXX, assuming that is the serial, was produced in 1951.........Dadgummit Fuff! My wife distracted me and the old man beat me again!:cuss:

Anyway, here's mine........It's my favorite wheelgun, and capable of humbling a Python..... (http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/2005/09/range-report-pristine-python-vs-k38.html)

You guys with your new guns:rolleyes:

My favorite K38 is K90XXX, and it will humble every Python I have ever seen or shot both in smoooooth and accuracy easily. It is just an incredible revolver, nothing else is worthy after shooting it. I have a K22 from the '51ish period, and it is good too, but that K38 just feels right. Most of my other Smiths are a bit newer...

There is no revolver better in 38 special then a Model15. I love shooting mine. :)

I like the CMs a lot.

XB- A CM "humble a Python?" I'd have to see that.

I love my Model 15, gonna take her out today and see what I can't do with those downloaded targets at 15 yds. Hope the wind cooperated. The gun is capable of shooting straighter then I can hold it. http://www.thehighroad.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=50178&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1167523222

Aw heck, if we're gonna post new guns, here's my Smith & Wesson Model 15-3 Combat Masterpiece.

:)

SP, I suppose it's all in the hands that hold it. In mine, the CM shoots truer than the Python (http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/2005/09/range-report-pristine-python-vs-k38.html). If I were holding the CM and you were holding the Python, you might wax my tail. The difference then would be the shooter, not the gun.

My first S&W was 15-4(April,06). I now have 4 S&W K frames. Yeah, they are also great when you are shooting for best group to see who buys the coffee after the shooting session. Old 112

From a machine rest Colts generally out-shoot S&Ws due to the tighter lock up and tighter bore.

From a machine rest Colts generally out-shoot S&Ws due to the tighter lock up and tighter bore.

That's partly true, but the main reason is that at 50 yards, which is the usual distance for machine rest testing, the 16 to 1 rifling twist in Colt barrels better stabilizes the bullet then Smith & Wesson's 18 3/4 to 1 twist.

But ultimately it's the shooter that makes the difference in group size on the target.

For me, the difference is in my ability to control specific triggers. My trigger control on the S&W is better, thus, I shoot it better. YMMV.
