The SA I didn't want to like

It’s a Taurus Gaucho, mine happens to be a 5.5" CCH in .357.

I bought it to be used as an all purpose / chores / nothin’ serious / beater gun, the kind you won’t care too much if it gets a little scratched up and maybe doesn’t get cleaned quite as often as the others. I wasn’t terribly concerned about tack driver accuracy as I suspected the most frequent load it would see would be snake shot for gophers and barn swallows and the most serious work it would likely see would be knocking pop cans off the old rotten fence post. Well, here it is over a year later, turns out I was only half right. It’s got some scratches on it now from daily chores carry as I expected and the Taurus lock thing is kind of filled with crud last time I looked, but, I really like this gun. The trigger is crisp and light, the cylinder locks up as tight as anything else I own, the hammer is right where it should be with a four click pull that’s so smooth and light it makes your heart palpatate, the grip frame width is perfect, fit and finish is excellent, the color case hardening is true case hardening and not just a cosmetic finish, and I’ll be darned if it isn’t the most accurate single action revolver I own. I didn’t want that to be the case here, didn't see it coming, but there it is. When I first bought it, I was almost ashamed to tell anybody I bought it instead of a NM Vaquero. But, now that I’ve owned it for a year and shot the heck out of it, (I can't believe I'm about to say this...) I’m actually thinking about buying another. Maybe I'll make it a stainless in 4.6" to somehow justify the purchase.

If you get a chance to borrow one for a session, give it a spin. You may be surprised, I sure was.

Same thing happened to me with the first purchase of a Uberti Cattlemen from a freind who needed $125.00 fast, which I parted with under the understanding he could buy said gun back when he could afford it. He said about a year later I could keep it forever because he bought a Baby Eagle...I love the Uberti!

I bought a Gaucho in .45 Colt last year and it's far and away my favorite sidearm. Beautiful finish and tight action, and it's very accurate. I get it out of the safe sometimes for no other reason than to fondle it.
