Does $430 +tax sound about right for a new one?

No, too high by about $100 +tax. Great gun, likely worth that much if you've evers shot one, but one can be had for a lot less.

OUCH! Too much!

There are plenty of excellent used 336s available. Check gun shows, pawn/gun shops, auctionarms.com or gunbroker.com.

I have two (a 1975 and 1982) that I bought within the last 4 years. I paid $140 and 125 respectively. Both are nice but the older one needed some TLC. Both shoot great.

Don't spend anymore than you have too.

Food for thought there - thanks.
The 336C is the nice one with the high quality walnut stock. I can get new 336A's and W's for around $350. Maybe I do need to look in the used section.

Look it up on Wal-Mart.com for the lowest retail price.

It's pretty cheap, considering it shoots armor-piercing ammo at extreme ranges like OVER 100 METERS!

The used ones that Ive looked at seem to have a few small dings and scratches, but appear to have been shot very little. I would definitely consider a used one, it's hard to wear out a 336C. Used goes for around $250.00 here in Missouri.

Walmart had 336W for $289.00 +tax at Christmas. The 336C has nice wood and should also have the black n white bullseye on the stock.

Walmart is eliminating firearm/ammo sales. For this and many other reason I will NEVER shop at Walmart.

Here's are some nice ones on Gunbroker for about $200:

http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=65726269

Many choices but note there are no bids on the higher priced Marlins.

Straker, that is a store by store deal, and as they tell it, it is because they can un-man the sporting goods department therefore not heving a full time employee to pay at that position. The WM i ususally go to here in Albuquerque is NOT doing that but two others who have less Sporting goods traffic are the other three in town are not going to discontinue carrying guns and ammo. The WM I go to sells about 5 gunsand about a gilion dollars in ammo, and a hunderd licenses a day fully warrenting a full time position.

Walmarts in the Phoenix area are not discontinuing gun sales. In fact several of the stores are remodeling the gun counters and putting in new gun cases. But Arizona is very gun friendly!:p
