Anybody know when the 431 was introduced and when Taurus discontinued it? I want a 3 inch .44 special revolver, but I don't want an N-frame. I liked the Smith 696, but then S&W discontinued that after a short run and I don't see them anymore. When I do manage to find one, it's $500 used. 431s are a bit easier to find and much less costly. I saw one recently that looked new, but was wearing rather old-looking factory grips. Made me wonder how old this thing was.

I guess I should just give up and get a 445, but I really don't like the 2 inch barrel.

According to the Blue Book, they were made from 1993 to 1997.

Some people have been complaining about Smith's 696, and since they quickly went back off the market there may be some truth to it. Cautiously choose one.
