I am curious as to why Browning decided to discontinue making the venerable High-Power 9mm/40 ..?
It can`t have been because of "lack of demand"...
Please help me to understand,
Humbly,
Howard

They haven't. Fabrique Nationale still has it in their catalog.

For reasons unknown to me, Hi-Powers are no longer a regularly-catalogued Browning offering, although their 2003 catalog still shows them available as custom-offerings with little other information on them. "Regular" service-type Brownings are available from FNH-USA in, I believe, Charlotte, NC, see http://www.fnhusa.com/contents/hg_hpsa.htm. I have a recent FN Hi-Power and am very pleased with it. It is a MkIII Hi-Power with the FN logo instead of the Browning name.

Browning never made the HP, they only imported it from Belgium, were it is made by FN. Browning marked HPs are still available if you are willing to pay the price.

Maybe they finally realized that nobody was going to pay $550 for the same gun that FN is selling for $450 (or less). I was never impressed enough with Browning to buy one. The only Browning I ever purchased was a 2-tone BDM that I bought new for $290 after taking pity on a dealer who had been trying to move it for over a year :neener: . And I've never even shot the darned thing. I do have an FEG Hi-Power copy, though. Shot maybe 200 rounds through it.

I've owned several Browning (FN) Hi-Powers in the past and loved them but not the price. I now own a FEG Hi-Power ($200) and would never invest in a Browning of FN again, the FEG is a super value.
