Does any one know where to go to get up to date info on shotshell idenifcation. I'm trying to make sure that I get the right info for reloading them. Main problem is with Remenington and Winchester. Thanks.

The Lyman Shotshell manual has a section to help Id cases.

I've got the layman book and it only has the Remington Target RTL and SP Unibody. The discriptions don't match up with the Rem. SureShot Heavy Dove load. I would take a guess that it's the same as target load, but not for sure.

Then we have the Winchester HS. I have read on the box that you have to use the HS data to reload. My Layman book doesn't have that data. I've got the 4th edition manual is there a newer one?

I have the Lyman 3rd Edition 6th printing and the 4th Edition 1st printing. Both have ID sections.
3rd Ed chapter VIII. page 64

4th Ed chapter 3. page 26

Both have color cutaway illustrations.

These are as far as I know the most current out there.
There may be other publications out there in the world.

When I came up on a case that I could not find a reference to, I cut 1 in half and compared it to the known sampling. This method works well. If there was nothing similar or the materials were too different, it hit the trash.
Older paper base wad cases are not worth the potential problems due to the degradation of the pressed paper. The paper will flake off during priming. Sometimes this flake of paper will cover the flash hole in the battery cup. which could cause a hang fire or just not fire.

Thanks m-223. I can still remember the old paper shells and wadings. We found out that you could colour the wadings and it helped see if you were shooting in front or behind the birds. I took the shell in question, cut it in half. Looks just like the one in the picture so I loaded one up, shot it, checked it over. Looks good Thanks again
