Important info Applebee's policy CHANGE

I had a little cyber-talk with Mr. DeAngelo and he appears to be changing his position ... Thank you for your note. I have determined that my Applejam Applebee's restaurants will be consistent with our parent company's (Applebee's International) practice of not posting signs prohibiting licensed, concealed handguns. Therefore, in the Applejam of Texas' Applebee's restaurants, we will not post signs prohibiting licensed, concealed handguns.
I look forward to your continued patronage of your local Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar.
Sincerely,
Frank DeAngelo ... see what can be accomplished if we all stick together ;)

As I said on the other thread, polite and reasonable replies to a bad policy almost always work. 'Specialy when aimed at the wallet.
We can all learn from this. No "hot head" letters or e-mail,no threats or bad words, and no personal attacks. Keep a level head and work from a position of "calm, cool and collected".
You know, that old honey and flies thing.
Good work guys.

I wish that meant something for us over here in SC. Here, we are not allowed to carry into a place that sells alcohol for consumption.
It's a dumb law, IMHO, because most CWP holders are smart enough not to get tanked while CWPing. If there were ever a chance to twart a crime, we could not do our part to remedy a situation.
But hey, concealed is concealed...

I wonder if what changed his mind were questions asking how he was going to gaurentee his patrons safety since he was preventing them from protecting themselves. The threat of that potential liability may have been a good motivator for him.

USMCsilver,
We have the same idiocy in Virginia. Swell law, guys. If a drunken SOB starts shooting up the local Fridays, my family and me will have to resort to ducking under a table.

This is a fantastic WIN!
Now, let's get the same level of support behind SB 501 in Texas and let Governor Perry know that he should sign this into law! SB 501 will prevent local governments in TX from doing the same thing we just slammed Applebee's for doing.
Look HERE (http://www.packing.org/talk/thread.jsp/12218/) for more information!

Good job guys!!! We have Applebee's here in NC but I don't think I've ever been to one. If they sell alcohol I can't carry inside anyway, NC law, but it's good to know that 100 emails to an anti-gun company can make a difference.
Excellent job to all who emailed!!!

...my Applejam Applebee's restaurants will be consistent with our parent company's (Applebee's International) practice... Sounds like he got spanked by Corporate, who could see this thing snowballing like the K-Mart Rosie Boycott.
Great outcome - and see, if you just tell them you'll honor their policy by taking your business elsewhere, the policy can change.
I may just dine at an Applebee's this weekend after all.

Thank you notes go a long way, but, those of you who live there . . .
Please go eat there and thank them in person. If you can't stand the food, have a Coke or some fries, anything. That way the manager will know he did the right thing (or those who ordered him did the right thing) and not feel like he was blackmailed.

I think this fantastic! WE WON! HA! And we won it fast. He quickly came to see the light. How cool is that? Just because this cat made this decision based on money - he is still an Anti-Gun jackhole. Kodiak, you may be mistaken... It could be that he, like _many_ folks out there, equate firearms carry with the criminal element. They're ignorant. That, fortunately, is a curable condition.
It could be that he has taken a step from the "anti" side of the street a bit closer to the "pro" side of the street.
Who knows - we may, in fact, gain a few converts with this. The path from ignorance to knowledge can work.

Just fired a note off to the Waffle House folks...
===
I'm on a low carb diet, and like to eat at Waffle House restaurants - hey,
I like your omelets. They're perfect.
But since your company has adopted a stance of not allowing people who
_legally_ carry concealed firearms on the premises, I'm no longer going to be
able to patronize your restaurants. I don't know if someone in your
corporate headquarters has equated ownership of firearms with gangsters or
something, but they need to realize that concealed carry permit holders are, by
definition, some of the most law-abiding folks in the country. We are NOT
criminals (in fact, how many of your general population of customers, or
employees for that matter, have had background checks performed on them to
ensure that they have no criminal records?), and when we're equated with such,
it is very insulting. Please keep in mind that the criminal element won't
pay any attention to your policies - it's only the permit holders whose
business you will lose.
In the past (often while travelling to practice - your Wentzville, MO
store was a favorite place to stop prior to visiting the St. Louis Benchrest
Rifle Club in Wright City - or to matches) I've often eaten there, since the
quality is consistent around the country, and I'll miss it.
Should you revise your policy, I'll resume my patronage. Thank you very
much.

Wow! I've been impressed with the action I've seen to these things from the gun-owning community in the last couple of weeks (and it's not just THR, it started here but it has spread to other boards who also emailed Applejam). Two weeks ago a similar campaign was started over on www.packing.org to convince Alan Young Buick in Richardson to take down their 30.06 signs. They did. That's 2 successes in 2 or 3 weeks that I've seen thanks to rallying together of the gun community. We can be doing this on a constant basis, one victory at a time. Good job, all!

I sent a thank you email to Mr DeAngelo as well though I do not live in the great state of Texas. I am now off to Applebees with the family of 5 to keep MY end of the bargain. I think we need to walk our talk. I will mention this thread to the local Applebees manager. Tell your friends and coworkers and email buddies that Applebees is very supportive of the Constitution. It will make a difference.
Blessings to all. Stay safe.

Yes I am;)
Went to Applebees last night with the family and an extra kid {always a treat taking kids out to eat :banghead: }. After we ate, I took the bill to the manager and explained why I was there. I thanked her and Applebees for their support of 2nd Amendment rights and the support of those who carry concealed. The management was not aware of the brewhaha going on concerning Applebees in Texas but they do now. I mentioned Mr DeAngelo's name and Applejam Inc.
Steaks-average (too much salt for me). Salmon-good. ChickenPotPie-good. Wrap-average. Service-average to good.

I went into applebees this afternoon with my son to see if they actually lived up to their promise to allow CCW in their establishments.
I walked in and immediately saw a blank spot on the wall where the infamous sign once was.
The way things normally go it would take an act of congress to get something like that removed...but the folks here on THR really came through for RKBA.
