this could just as easily go under the rifle or shotgun forums...

do any of you who buy ammo online have an opinion as to the cheapest average prices? i've been looking to buy in larger quantities than stores typically carry. but after looking at cheaperthandirt and outdoormarksman, i find that they often can't beat my nearest sporting goods store, which seems odd to me. plus there'd be shipping on top of that. the brick and mortar store, however, has spotty selection at best.

so i'd like to find a place with excellent selection but that can beat the sporting goods store that is two minutes from my house on price. ideas?

I second the ammoman.com vote.

Plus I really like that what you see is what you pay price policy!
Got tired of shopping around all over the net, burning a lot of time looking for what I thought was a better deal only to get hammered at check-out and then going back to ammoman.com

If I order ammo now it's the first place I go.

There are a lot of places cheaper than ammoman on budget ammo. He may be better than most on ammo that's a step or two up the food chain (Speer Lawman vs. CCI Brass) or SD/HD ammo, but I wouldn't look to him for range ammo.

a good list of suppliers from the 1911forum.com page:

I would add Zero Bullets/Ammunition (www.rozedist.com) who sell new and remanufactured ammo.

Ammoman.com is always higher than most even when you add the shipping to the price.

Aim is excellent and for me only one state away (lower shipping).

Century is also good and has flat rate shipping and no shipping on orders over $500.

Ammunition to go, The ammunition store, Sportsmans Guide, are also good sources of ammo.

And don't forget Classic arms, great people there.

I don't know where you are in Texas exactly, but there is a bulk ammo seller out of Brenham who comes to the Pasadena, TX gun show quite often. I think it is The Real Gun Show. You can look up the web site for times and locations. They normally have boxes and cases and have lots of Wolf and whatever surplus is on the market. Prices are normally close to discount plus shipping. However, if you buy individual boxes are smaller lots, those will be marked up a little.

www.rozedist.com is the cheapest, especially if you buy their reloads in bulk and swap brass.
