Builder February 24, 2007, 04:28 PM Quote:Don't tread on me:This thread is pure nonsense.
I was told, about 50 times this last year on this forum, that the Democrats are quaking scared to death of ever being gun-controllers because of "1994" and that we shouldn't fear punishing the Republicans for issues like the border which will never be solved regardless.END Quote
Still feel this way? This is a serious threat to gun owners:
* HR 2038, the Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act: Congresswoman McCarthy has introduced legislation that would make the assault weapon and high-capacity magazine ban permanent, and also significantly strengthen current law. Her bill would expand the definition of “assault weapon” to include post-ban “copy cat” weapons, closes a loophole allowing kits to be sold to modify legal weapons into assault weapons, and enhances the tracing of assault weapons, among other things.
* HR 3831: Congresswoman McCarthy has introduced legislation with her colleague Congressman Castle of Delaware that would extend the Assault Weapons Ban for another 10-years.
* National Instant Criminal Background Check Database (NICS) Enhancement Unfortunately, the states and some Federal agencies do not provide all disqualifying records to the FBI needed for a complete background check for gun purchases. Congresswoman McCarthy has introduced legislation to correct this gap.
* HR 3237, the NICS Improvement Act: Congresswoman McCarthy’s legislation would provide grants to states to upgrade information and identification technologies for firearms eligibility determinations and require all Federal agencies that have records on persons for whom it is illegal to purchase a firearm to provide that information to the Attorney General for inclusion in NICS.

Don't Tread On Me February 24, 2007, 04:47 PM I hope you realize that my post was sarcastic. And that I've made a number of these "I told you so" posts here before. I, in the nicest way I can, ridicule those who claimed that Democratic control of the Congress would not lead to gun control because of nonsense like the "1994" style retribution and other such theories which is all just excuse making and APOLOGIST crap by liberal progressives who own guns and are looking for way to reconcile their gun owning with the fact that their party is a bunch of gun-loathing ban mongers.
As you can see, the Democrats are not scared of giving us gun control. They believe they have a mandate, and just like in 2004, they DO NOT CARE TO LOSE ON ACCOUNT OF GUN CONTROL. Wake up people. The Democrats voted as a massive block for the reauthorization of the AWB in 2004 in the US Senate. They were not in the majority, and yet they put themselves on record. They obviously did not care about the political repercussions of it. They didn't sit there and say "Oh my God, we better not vote for this so we can win in 2004!" ...they didn't care, they wanted the ban. In fact, during the presidential campaign, KERRY constantly whined about the AWB reauthorization while acting like a hunter. As you can see, they're not afraid to go for the AWB. None of them said "oh my, the big bad NRA is going to get us like in 1994" ...they went ahead and pushed their agenda.
Who cares if they lose right. Say they pass a ban and they lose in 2008. Does that mean they've lost forever and ever? They are finished as a political party for eternity? NO. They will get back in someday, but we, we the people, the gun owners will be stuck with a PERMANENT ban. Checkmate.
Now it is time to do damage control and play D.
pacodelahoya February 24, 2007, 04:49 PM If all gunowners would vote as a block, we could rule. I for one am a one issue voter.
Builder February 24, 2007, 05:34 PM Don't tread on me, No I did not know that you stand on the right side of this problem but am glad to see you are...
The only chess game you are in, is with these elected officials that want to put these bills into law...We need everyone on this board to fax a letter to the Judicial Committee that is on the link I posted...Snail mail will not get in their hands for 4-6 weeks because of security...They will just ignore e-mails...
There is nothing nonsensical about any post that exposes these agenda driven hypocrites, the really uniformed continue to vote into office...
What really concerns me is the GOP elected politicians that will get clay feet and wash out in a vote...This country made a wrong turn last November and we will pay for this as gun owners by this very stupid of moves...
Carolyn McCarthy should have never been elected, simply because of the tragedy that had occurred to her, made her unfit for public office...Yet she continues to hammer away with stupid bills that will disarm Americans during these very dangerous times...She is not rational or responsible and certainly should not be permitted to introduce bills that strip away our Constitutional Rights...We need to really get the word out to everyone on what this means to us all...
Sorry I did not catch your thinly veiled sarcasm in the other post but I have seen some really questionable posts here, that frankly, more than concern me about the thinking of some of the members here and the direction of our country in general...Women and minorities have the most to fear by disarming legally abiding citizens yet as groups in general, they just don't get it...I was talking to a soccer mom type the other day at the gas station and it quickly became apparent that she was truly clueless about a lot of things, she will absolutely vote for HC!
The government cannot protect us in a disaster of any size so why do we want to remove individuals rights to ownership of firearms? We need desperately to expose these socialist elitists for who they really are...
I just got through watching a funny special on Fox News that was what if Hollywierd ran Washington...Funny and scary! A bunch of flaky actors put into political office! Spoiled self serving egotists, oh wait, isn't that whats in Washington now?
Later...
Don't Tread On Me February 24, 2007, 06:05 PM It's not the gun-grabbers out there that I worry about, it's the saboteurs in here that boil my blood.
Anyway, I want to stay High Road so I'll just leave it at that. Let's get ready and lets win this fight.
Thain February 24, 2007, 06:15 PM Y'know, I think we just need to stop allowing people named 'McCarthy' from running for office. :uhoh:
It never seems to work out.

Aguila Blanca February 24, 2007, 10:51 PM Unfortunately, I believe the Dems are so certain that a majority of Americans are fed up with Iraq and ticked off at Bush and the Republicans for putting us there that (as commented above) they believe (as in BELIEVE) they have a mandate, and they BELIEVE that they essentially have a lock on the next presidential election, irrespective of who they nominate. So they have no fears about going all-out for gun control legislation.
The key here is going to be some Dems who claimed when running that they were pro-2nd Amendment. We'll see if they step up to the plate, but I'm not holding my breath.
