Have a big box of remmington #5 1/2 primers (small pistol magnum) but I am wanting to start reloading 38 specials which the book calls for remmington #1 1/2 small pistol primers (not magnum). So my questions are what are the differences between small pistol and small pistol magnum primers and can I use these magnum primers to load my 38s if I keep everything else the same as far as powder and bullet weights?

 Using a Mag primer when it calls for a Standard primer will increase the pressure to much. I loaded a 44 Spec with a Mag primer once and it scared the hell out of me. Just follow a good reloading manual like Spear or look online. Good luck.
