How about tomorrow, 11:30am... Tusco Gun Club ;-)
I'll be there anyway ....:neener:
Of course, maybe not if the weather gets nasty and I have to listen to too much whining from the SO (good thing she doesn't read this).

I'd vollenteer my farm as a location, if we are doin a private place, but all i have to shoot into is woods, no benches or anything. 'corse, if you have a pickup its no biggy, tailgating is awesome.:D

The bad thing about Tusco is members can only bring one guest. That limits the group size for a THR outing.
The nice thing about Tusco is that for a steel plate shoot you don't have to be a member to come. Members and guest all pay the same for range fees (usually $5 per range for all day!), they run three or more ranges at a time, and you can shoot anything that you own (full auto, shotguns, cowboys stuff, mil-surplus, etc). The next two Tusco steel plate dates are June 22nd and July 13th.
The setups from the past have included TONS of steel on the rifle range, IDPA/USPSA style pistol setups, and dueling falling steel (the last two are often shotgun/22LR friendly!).
Kids, ladies, and seniors shoot free. They have a snak-bar and club house with indoor plumbing (for the ladies and kids), covered firing points, and lots of seating.
The hardest thing about meeting at one of these shoots is keeping track of everyone. :D

slightly off-topic, but I may move to Ohio...what are the gun laws like there?
Thanks:)

June 7, 2003, 04:47 AM
I'm there if schedule/location allows.
I like Jakes idea of tailgating. No benches is no biggie. Couple sawhorses and some 2X4's and you've got an instant bench.
tex,
Ohio is a no carry state.:banghead:
Otherwise the laws aren't too bad unless you live in the one of the cities; avoid Toledo like the plague.

I wish I could take some folks down there. Unfortunately, this is one a those kinda people who doesn't like too many folks around. Took me five years to get an invite. One of these days I hope to have my own d*mn place.
When I do...I'll throw a shooting party!

foghornl or any other NE Ohio guys,
Where is a decent place to shoot in Cleveland? I was visiting my sister last month for a few days... dont know when I'll be back that way again, but it would sure be nice to know of a good range. Any IDPA action?
Gabby Hayes
June 8, 2003, 01:05 AM
Browns Fan, the only range that I know about in the Cleveland area is called Stonewall [ http://www.stonewallrange.com ], located in one of the southeastern suburbs a few miles out of town directly off I-77. It's easy to find, has a dozen stalls (25 yard max.) and will rent you a variety of handguns. You can bring shotguns and rifles on certain days. Their web site has current info.

Brownsfan,
Stonewall is a pretty decent place. A THR member, Joe, is an employee there. Joe, 3gun and myself have been known to shoot there on occasion.

Browns Fan,
If you want to shoot indoors, Stonewall is one place. Other's include Big Bore in Eastlake and North Coast Sportsman's Advantage and B&T on the West Side. If you like outdoor shooting, the best deal going is at the ODNR Grand River range - $3 a day or $25 a year (or $10 on top of a $15 fishing license). A couple of us ARFcom'ers shoot out there every once in awhile. There is some IDPA action, but last time I went, I had to go down to Medina, though I think Stonewall might have some IDPA style shoots as well.

Heck, the Ohio TFL get together ended up at Stonewall.
Speaking of Stonewall, for the NEO folks.. I've been thinking we need to challenge Kenny (Fox 8 news in the morning) to come out and shoot. It'd be a good opportunity to show shooting in a better light...
Are you listening Joe??:D

Ugh, and parking.
"If you like outdoor shooting, the best deal going is at the ODNR Grand River range - $3 a day or $25 a year..."
Yeah, got my year pass a few weeks back right after visiting the GR Range. Very nice facility. VERY strict safety rules (which is OK by me). Only bad things about the range are no targets between the firing line and the backstop (25 yd, 50 yd, 100 yd) and maximum range is 100 yds.

I certainly hope if there is a shoot it's not at the furthest reaches of the state. Seems like every shoot I've seen in Ohio is darn-near a border, which always baffles me.
I'm there if I don't have to circumnavigate the globe to get there! ;)

It may not be "the" THR members shoot but TUSCO (http://www.geocities.com/tuscorp/) is having the monthly steel plate shoot, Sunday June 22nd. This is a family friendly club and shoot. They usually run 3 ranges, each range costing just $5 to shoot all day. Kids, ladies, and seniors shoot free. The WEATHER (http://www.weather.com/weather/local/USOH0601) looks to be just about ideal. Hope to see some new faces in the crowd.

There's Bulletfest IV the following weekend, I'll probably be there in the morning helping setup the mini-gun and a .50 or two.. you can't miss 'em.. If I'm there I'll be nearby.

Tusco's plate shoot is open to the public. You will have to sign a form to wave liability. It is a cold range with actions open with a safety flag (if possible) when not on the firing line.
Last year a Bulletfest, I didn't pay anything, just walked onto the range to watch (didn't shoot).

I believe that there will be a ten dollar entrance fee (or a shoot fee, not sure which it is) at Bulletfest this year. Last year, a collection can was passed around and you kicked in what you could. This year, with the amount of expected attendance and the wear and tear associated with holding a shoot, Bob felt it was necessary to charge a fee in order to compensate Snode's for the use of their land and whatever damage/wear might be caused.

Hey Quack,
I'll be heading to Tusco Sunday on my way back to Belpre from Parma Hts. If you want, you can follow me down there. Bring anything that will knock down a ½"-¾" plate and plenty of ammo.

Ack, I think without your parental unit(s) you'll probably have to wait. I don't remember off hand the details of the waiver, but I suspect if you're under 18 you would have to have a parent sign.
falconer
July 10, 2003, 12:11 PM
If you are under 21 and in possession of a handgun, you have to be supervised by an adult. If you are under 18 and in possession of a longgun, you have to be supervised by an adult. Now, the last time I checked, adult was someone 18+.
However, once you get there you'll need a parent to sign the waiver for you to shoot.

Yeah, ordered it right after the Medina show (actually saw an LE2A and LE2B there) at B&T Middleburg Hts. ~$10 more but it's my regular shop and I don't mind paying the extra for good service. Came in the following Thursday, picked it up the Saturday after the 4th.
Went and got the LE2B with McMillan A3 over the Choate. I guess I'm a sucker for McMillans. When given a choice in original equipment stocks with the same action, I think it will always be a McMillan for me if it is offerred. My plan now is to drop the action of the Mod 70 Stealth I got earlier this year (which came with an HS Precision) into an aftermarket bought Choate Varmint.
That Accu Trigger is pretty good, although I wish the trigger safety blade was a bit more broader and not as much like a Glock. Trigger was set at ~3# very crisp out of the box but cranked it down with the tool (which incidentally looks like a woodworking bit for a Dremel tool) to ~1.75#. Overtravel was already dialed out from the factory.
These two new rifles this year are still unscoped so no shooting just yet. (The Mod 70 already has 30mm Leu lapped rings/bases on it though.)

can i join Tusco if/when i go down to the shoot?
You should be able to find somebody with a membership app (it's really short), or I could email (or you can download) the latest newsletter. I think the website's at http://www.geocities.com/tuscorp
You will not be an official member until it's processed and I think they post your name in the newsletter (to see if anybody gnows you ;-)...
