Pleanty of idiocy to go around!

Ok, my mother-in-law is an idiot.
Normally this is expected, and coped with, but my wife has alot of contact with her.
She's vehimently anti-gun, and very anti-woman-having-gun. She has poisoned the mind of my wife since childhood, to the point where my wife would much rather be killed by a criminal then potentially kill the criminal defending herself.
The latest thing is, her mom freaked out when she found out im building an AR15, because its an "assault rifle", and thus much more EVIL than any other rifle (of which i have two).
This is my main point: She thinks that women shouldnt have guns because they are just going to be taken away and used against her. I told my wife thats bull$hit, and its just not true. Does anybody have some solid figures to prove that a female having a firearm does not put that female at extra risk? I'm going crazy here with this rampant ignorance!

Start with Armed Females of America and Second Amendment Sisters. Web sites easy to find with search. From there, you will find links to others, such as keepandbeararms.com, etc.

I am trying to understand the 'logic' of the argument that a woman with a gun will just have it used against her.
Why? Why don't we hear 'if a man has a gun it will just be used against HIM?' Why is it only with a woman? Could it be that the anti-gun extremist bigot parasites are assuming that a woman is a frail creature who couldn't POSSIBLY learn how to handle a gun effectively?
Tell the mother-in-law that women can handle it. In fact, as we all know, women generally are better shooters than men.

I would also hit mother-in-law with this fact:
* The courts have consistently ruled that the police do not have an obligation to protect individuals, only the public in general. For example, in Warren v. D.C. the court stated "courts have without exception concluded that when a municipality or other governmental entity undertakes to furnish police services, it assumes a duty only to the public at large and not to individual members of the community."31
If she expects the law to protect her, she is sadly mistaken. They do their best, but they can't be everywhere at once.

Have you tried the old, "do you have any fire extinguishers at home?"
"Why? You have a local fire department?"

I told this to my anti-buddy, read Gun Facts v 3.2, 2002 (http://www.keepandbeararms.com/downloads/GunFacts_v3.2.pdf) or stop talking to me about it.

I'm pretty lucky .... My mother-in-law has for years expressed a desire to get an Uzi purely because the anti-gun crowd doesn't want her to have one. (She's not actually into shooting, though she does have a revolver, but she's most definitely pro-gun.)
keepandbearms maintains a list of media stories of people using guns to defend themselves. These are fairly common, even in the face of the liberal media who don't like to report such events.
Show your MIL some of these stories. Challenge her to find even a single story of a gun being taken away from a woman and used against her.
Eh... but then.... logic doesn't work with antis.

Just invite her to check out Oleg's site and see if that doesn't at least get her to thinking.
My main problem with the "women shouldn't carry guns, because it will be used against them, so, instead, they should just call the cops" crowd is simply this: If the guy's bad enough to take her gun away from her, what's to stop him from taking her cell phone away?
I'm glad both my fiance and my future MIL are very pro-gun (and from Illinois no less).

I would suggest that in addition to the other excellent web sites that have been mentioned above you might wish to consided
http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcdgaga.html for an article on that very subject.
Hope this helps.
