after the right to keep and bear arms was mentioned, one poster called it "a stupid right". Any advice on how to deal with him? He's Quebecois if it helps.

Very Simple. A man without a rifle is a subject and a man with a rifle is a citizen.

and the other forum is????

NONE of our concern, as THR frowns on forum-wars...! ;)

As to the OP's question...to me, I think the Canadian's statement is just too vague to take apart as is. if it was me, my response would be:

"And just why do you feel that it is a "stupid" right?"

THEN, he will likely proceed to dig his own hole, by spouting antigun rhetoric that can be much better taken apart by logic! :D

"And just why do you feel that it is a "stupid" right?"

That's what I proceeded to ask him.

Just ask him how can the government be prevented from something extreme, like forcing groups of citizens it deems undesirable into prisons or something.

He's Quebecois
If he feels it is a stupid right-he's in luck! He's not american so he doesn't have to worry about it. :)

Is it a CS:S Forum?

The only stupid right is the right to call any right "stupid."

He's Quebecois ? Maybe you should have him read the lyrics to "La Marseillaise". The event described in that song is important, and what led up to that is all the more reason to retain arms. (Regarding said events, I will cite Quebec's own motto, Je me souviens.) After all, Quebec's culture comes from France.

Full quote

Tis a gay and stupid right. Do they allow you to bare arms becuase they (government) knows that deep inside you (populace) are sacred little boys who think that in this time of trouble (which it isn't) that terriosts will come attack you at ANY time and you HAVE to be prepared to fight against them? Thats stupid

And, Deer Hunter, it's a UT2K4 mod forum (Ballistic Weapons)

Green Lantern

So it's not a "time of trouble?" Maybe ask him if he'd be happy to put on a $2,000 suit and $1,000 watch and go for a midnight stroll in the "bad part" of any American city...;)

Point out to him that terrorism is not a huge concern for most Americans in the terms of coming face-to-face with one, but criminals are more violent, bold, and usually drug-addled than ever.

more from him

I never said that your basic right is stupid. I just think its stupid how you all feel totally insecure and need to hold a gun to make you feel better. That is what i think is stupid, not your right, i'm fine with that, thats why you learn to punch and kick, for defense.

To me if you have a gun and your not a policeman or in the military, it seems that your just screaming to the world that you think everyone wants to kill you and you NEED to protect yourself. Isn't the US the only democratic country that has made guns legal for civilans?

Joshua says, He's Quebecois
and asks Any advice on how to deal with him?

I might suggest that you tell him that it may be as simple as just a matter of history.

That is, we colonials south of our common border with the Quebecois beat the Brits, gained complete independence from the Crown, and enacted a Constitution containing a Bill of Rights which contained the Second Amendment.

Contrast the Quebecois.

With tongue in cheek,

Jim

Punching and kicking is quite useless against people with weapons. Be it criminals or tyrants. Show the anti this (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8884586003342147853) if he thinks he can Jackie Chan his way out of a situation where a crack head with a knife or something attacks.

Oh, and then tell him that Jack Thompson and company think his right to free speech is stupid, so he should just turn over all his video games to them. ;)

First of all, tell the illiterate little boy that it's BEAR not BARE.

And he did say it was stupid before he said he didn't say it was stupid (Is he John Kerry maybe? :D)

He can punch and kick all he wants, but that won't help him in a gunfight... :scrutiny:

Tell him that its naive to think that the government will protect you at all times. Ask him if being faced with a gun wielding foe, or even several people armed with knives or bottles he would prefer to have A: a phone to call 911 or B: a loaded pistol that he knows how to shoot accurately. Also let him know that the whole concept of holding a gun due to paranoia is really his own fear rather than yours, and that he's projecting. Then send him to this link http://www.jpfo.org/ragingagainstselfdefense.htm have him read it, and then tell you what he thinks:)

Joshua C
February 25, 2007, 09:25 PM
His reply:

'm afraid of morons who will shoot first ask questions later.

Too which mine is:

Aside from that being not the case in the vast majority of times, does it not make sense to be armed against these morons, then?

A lot of Canadians have sad view of themselves and the U.S. A friend of mine's wife, from B.C., told my wife (a LTC) "Canada doesn't need an army. We have the U.S. to protect us." They're sheeple and it is a matter of time and they will be gun free. We need to be very careful.

You know, I kind of think that the anti gunner using terms like "idiot", "gay", "stupid". and "moron" while I, the RKBA advocate didn't resort to pejoratives, kind of makes for a bit more credibility on my side.

I am 57 years old,,, I learned when I was 17, (forty years ago) the rules of fighting. The first rule is to win. If the fight is not worth any action you have to do to win, you should walk away. The second rule is,,, Make sure you are always better armed than your opponent. There is no third rule, if you feel a need for a third rule, you should read the first rule again, until you understand it.

I am pleased that he can kick and punch his way out of a knife fight, or a gun fight, or a home burglary. At my age I have decided that if god meant for me to touch my toes, he would have moved them up to my knees. If he meant for me to be a victim, he would not have made guns. I have five grandkids, and I am pleased that my daughters do not have to kick and punch to defend themselves, and my grandkids.

I do not care that his choice is not to arm himself. My choice, and the choice of each and every one of us should not require his approval.

I do not mind that he wants to "fight fair", personally I think that is an oxymoron. fight, and fair, they conflict with each other at the very base of meanings.
