Has anyone heard of a possible change in gov't policy that would restrict demilled service ammo components from being sold? According to this rumor neither powder nor projectiles would be sold, and the brass would be for scrap only.

I don't know anything about a change in componenet policy. However I do have a question about why the government sells components in the first place. Why demill .223 ammo into components? Why not sell as is? If their policy is to not sell to the public as ammo, why not give it to state national guard units or police agencies for practice? I still don't "get it" about why the government takes the time and trouble to break down ammo into components and sell. Can someone educate me on this?
Thanks,
John

Did you ever wonder who owns the companies that have the contract to demil?
Ever think that some senator or congressmen needed to make a splash in his home district?

I have worked for the government for 14 years and nothing surprizes me at this point. They will gag at a gnat and swallow an elephant. I'm sure they spend 50 cents to dismantle a 20 cent round of ammo, and the guy who started the program got a promotion.

It is just simply another example of the Government wasting our tax dollars. With something like an old airplane, yeah, sure, sell off the usable parts, then melt the rest and sell the aluminum. But to go to the trouble of disassembling ammo and selling the components is just nuts. I agree, let the guard units or law enforcement use the ammo for practice. They could even let active duty personell practice more. More practice never hurts!!!

Better idea: sell the loaded ammo to us tax payers via CMP!
