.22 Mag, along with .17 HMR and .17 HM2, are not manufactured in nearly the volume of .22 LR, and cannot take advantages of economy of scale.

I buy mine on-line, in bulk (sometimes you can get a deal) -- or I get it at the local gun show. I just picked up some CCI 30-grainers for range use (500 rounds) for about $60 at the San Diego gun show last week. Can't find it anywhere *near* that cheap in any gun store 'round here. Good luck!

Lady Astor: Mr. Churchill, you're drunk!
Churchill: Yes, and you, Madam, are ugly. But tomorrow,
I shall be sober.

Ellie: You found the primer!
Hadden: Clever girl. Lights! Pages and pages of data. Over 63,000 in all. And on the perimeter of each...alignment symbols, registration marks.
Ellie: But they don't line up.
Hadden: They do, if you think like a Vegan. An alien intelligence has got to be more advanced. That means efficiency functioning on multiple levels and…in multiple dimensions. "Contact"

When was the last time you bought components?

Primers under $20/1000 is looking like a great deal, surplus 55gr .223 at $35/1000 are still in the back of Shotgun News but who knows if they are actually available at that price. Don't leave much for powder to stay under $60/1000.

If you can still do it, please share your component supplier(s).

My gun club has an FFL. We buy powder by the case of 8 lb kegs (4 kegs, or 32 lbs per case.) I haven't bought primers for about a year now, but the last batch I bought was 50,000 at $12.50/thousand.

And yeah, I pay about $35/1000 for bullets.

But even if you buy from a retailer, you can still load them for a heck of a lot less than $120/1000. Heck, you can buy factory new .223 online for around $150/1000 if you buy in bulk.

Prices have gone up a lot in a year. Fortunately I kind of saw it comming and stocked up but I think you are in for a rude surprise next time you shop.

If you got a link for $150/1000 .223 factory ammo I'm sure lots of folks here would be very grateful, but even Wolf is more than that now.

Wally,

 Since I seldom shoot factory ammo, I guss I hadn't kept up. It has gone up more than I thought!:(

OTOH, if it continues to go up, I'll dig out my old .30-30 bullet moulds and go back to shooting cast lead bullets in the model 94, before I'll pay $120/k or more for 22s.
