How difficult is it to get Duracoat and similar finishes off? What method(s) are used to remove them? I would like to know now before trying it. Thank you in advance for any information about this.

I've done it, but the only way I have found is by blasting with aluminum oxide. Not a lot of fun.

I have used MEK to remove D.C., but it also had not cured fully. Not sure if waiting would make a difference or not.

I haven't done it myself but the research I've done into duracoat seems to indicate it would be a full bore bi$@h to remove once it is on.

Even a mild glass bead will remove it, no probs!
Don't even bother with solvents or steel wool, though.
Tha manufacturers/distributors of these products would have us believe they are near indestructible. LOL!

I just removed a Duracoat finish on a customers gun yesterday. Came off quite easily with 180 grit blasting media. Took me all of 2 minutes.

If the duracoat was applied as the manufacturer says it can be done ("Just clean it. No other surface preparation needed") it'll practically jump off of the metal when it sees the abrasive blaster cabinet! If it was applied with proper surface preparation, it'll take a minute or two to strip a slide down to bare metal.
Now if it was powder coat, get a BIG air compressor to keep up with the air demand and pack a lunch! Keep yer powder dry, Mac
