Experiences with Ross Leather?

We carry this stuff in the shop. It seems to be pretty well made, especially for the price, but I'd thought I'd see if anybody had any firsthand opinions of it.

I ask because I just got a double mag pouch on Friday -- the kind that buttons onto the belt in the rear. Anyway, I'm not very happy with it. For one, the mag that goes in one side is held too tightly and the one in the other is too loose, and will fall right out. If I adjust the tension on it enough to keep it in, the other mag won't come out... at least, not today.

Even more annoying is that when it's attached to my belt, due to the fact that I'm round, and not square, the snaps come undone. The one closest to my hip will come undone just moving around, but if I try to take a mag out, sometimes the other snap will let go, and then it attempts to dump my mags on the floor.

It didn't exactly break the bank at $33, but I actually expected it to work, ya know? I guess that's what I get for straying from my tried and true HBE leather. I knew better.

What say you?
Wes

Hey Wes - how's things dude?

I am going to move this to firearms accessories, as we are on about leather stuff.

I have not come across Ross Leather so far. I can say tho that mag' pouches are way more critical than many folks think - re holding enough but not too much etc.

I have a Ross IWB clip on holster for my CZ-82. Nice tight fit, gun slides home with a audible "snick", and the finish is just fine with adequate quality of leather and stitching. They are not a top of the line leather holster, but good for their price range. I didn't order a magazine carrier from them for it, I already had one, so can't speak to your specific situation.

I have a Ross holster for my 1911. Been a great holser, I would buy another.

I dont have any experience with their mag pouch/holsters though.

I have a Ross lined belt; very tough belt of good quality imo.

Thanks, Chris. I should've thought to put this in the Accessories forum... :o

Thanks for the replies so far. Maybe there's a couple of possibilities: 1) I could just be pickier than others as far as my mag carriers go, 2) Perhaps this thing will behave better when the leather is more broken-in, 3) Maybe I just got the inevitable "lemon."

As it sits, I'm going to keep it for now just to see what happens. I'm still going to get an HBE double pancake mag carrier, though.

I decided to wear this thing again today, and twice already I've narrowly caught the mag pouch and both mags from falling off of my belt. The snaps on this thing are WAY too easy to undo. It seems to me that they should have used some heavy-duty one way snaps to make it a lot harder to accidentally come off.

As it is, I suppose if it doesn't work as-is, I'll just have to make it work for me. I'm thinking about taking the snaps out altogether and using chicago screws for attachment.

I've about had it with this thing. I really love having 2 spares -- it balances out the weight on my belt, if nothing else.

I just can't do anything to make this thing work. :banghead:

Live and learn, and then get some real leather, I guess. Anybody else used one of these, or am I the guinea pig?
