It goes after shotguns too.
Semiautomatic Assault weapon means (in part):
`(H) A semiautomatic shotgun that has--
`(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
`(ii) a pistol grip;
`(iii) the ability to accept a detachable magazine; or
`(iv) a fixed magazine capacity of more than 5 rounds.
This means ANY semiauto shotgun with a folding stock, pistol grip or magazine extension is an banned assault weapon under the proposed legislation. Check out the whole thing over in L&P.

David,
I know this, you know this, and a few others around here know this.
Rest of the folks, IMO, do not care anything except about "Me,Me,Me" and buying a shotgun and how much useless crap they can hang off of it and post about how 'ulitimate' it is and the 'exotic' ammo is so "kewl". They don't care about Freedom, they don't have the time, or inclination to even found out how to shoot a damn shotgun, much less get involved in Preserving Freedom, which includes them having a ultimate kewl shotgun.
These are not Shotgunners, these are not Responsible Firearm Owners.
These are folks with a shotgun, computer and Internet connection.
These folks don't get "it" , don't want "it" and would not know "it" if "it" walked up and kicked them in the gonads.
I do not have have time for stupid people, breathing MY air.
I have better things to do passing on Responsible Firearm Ownership.
If this gets some folks to dirty diapers, call the damn .gov to change them diapers!
In the meantime I am waiting for a person(s) and physical address(s) so me and MY kind can send a taped penny to a letter to voice our displeasures of poor service.
Not got anything to do with shotguns specifically in Durham,NC . Has to do with bullets and being taxed and having to have a "permit" to buy them for reloading.
Principle of the matter, Tyranny is Tyranny and I don't give a bleeping bleep what one shoots, what they use to shoot, or what they prefer to shoot at.
I got "it", me and my kind have "it" and by golly are going to fight for "it".
Rest of the folks can shut up, get the hell out of my way and go fornicate themselves!
Run'em!

Don't hold back Steve, tell us how you really feel!!
Same thing here. I get kinda disgusted at times. A bigger enemy to our rights than Sarah Brady is apathy among us.....

What can I do?
edited to add: I'm a pretty young guy, 24 years old, been out of the "loop" for a while (college, marriage, daughter, two moves across country, all in the last 5 years, don't remember much before all of that). I'm not trying to sound stupid or sarcastic. I don't own any currently threatened firearms, my budget will only allow me to obtain 870s and K-frames (which is fine by me for now) but I recognize a threat when I see one. I just don't know what I can do to help.

What can WE do?
We can teach people the truth. Get them to the range and educate them about the foolishness we are fighting against.
We can make phone calls, write letters, pay personal visits to the local political offices.
If you are Democrat, you can work within your party to get your voice heard and demand they stop this assault on our rights.
If you are a Republican, you can work within your party to make fighting this (and the other) horrible gun control a party priority.
If you are a NRA member, you can let them know that you expect their MAXIMUM effort on the whole laundry list of gun control bills in the new congress. If you are not an NRA member, or a former member that has left the NRA, you can let them know what your beef is and consider sending some money to NRA-ILA (the political arm) anyway. You can look at Gun Owners of America, the Second Amendment Foundation and other excellent groups and support their efforts with your time or money. There is the Nation of Rifleman website that needs tons of work.
There are Appleseeds and range days to organize, hearings to attend, people to organize and newspapers to write.
Most of all, you can take some kids shooting. Even if we carry the day now, we’re going to need another generation.
There are active threads on L&P and The Rallying Point.

Write letters to congresscritters. Join the NRA/GOA/whatever is local to you. Call state and federal lawmakers. GOA sends out email updates and lists of people who need to be contacted about policies and bills that are in the works or that need to be changed. NRA sends out email updates of similar nature, though they seem to be less emotional (:neener: ) about it.

The gun haters have nothing to lose, so they just keep at it. We have only so many "categories" of guns left. It's like emptying an hour glass, it takes only a grain or two every so often to eventually run out.
It's a shame that gun "owners" are often so easily divided or distracted. We should be worried with every grain of sand we lose.
We had an SUV attacked by an assualt boulder in Colorado just recently, it nearly killed the driver. Maybe we can get a law against falling assualt boulders. I've taken up the cause of desensitizing people to the assualt descriptor. I point out assualt cars and assualt rocks to people just to show how stupid it is. I even ride an assualt bicycle to work (it even has studded tires for winter assualts).

I agree we have to get involved to keep this from happening. It irks me when people either have the attitude that there is nothing they can do to stop the ban so why try or that it "doesn't effect the guns I like" so it doesn't matter. They will eventually come around to those.
