I have torn down an old Remington Mohawk (I believe that it is basically a cheap 11-48) shotgun to clean it. Now I can't remember how the shell latch goes in. Please help. When I align the holes it protrudes into the magazine tube. The schmatics haven't helped me. It is the same latch that I took out. Will someone have mercy on me and put it into simple words or drawings exactly how to get this thing back into it's proper place. Thank you in advance and I will thank you again after I get this gun back together.

Sorry, no pics- just words.
The shell stop is supposed to block shells from emerging out of the magazine until it's time in the cycle of the gun for them to get fed into the chamber. So it has to be close to the magazine to do its job.
Be sure it is oriented in the right direction (with the curve to the inside of the receiver) and press it into its recess in the side of the receiver. Hold it there with a fingertip as you start to reinstall the trigger plate assembly. If the shell stop slips a bit as you try to get the trigger plate assy back in, you can use a pin punch with a tapered shoulder or the equivalent to realign the hole in the shell stop with the front cross pin hole in the receiver.
Good luck with it,

Thanks a million. Never thought I's ever get that thing in place until you told me how. Works fine now!

Glad to hear it worked for you. I have an old Mohawk myself- 12 ga., 28" Mod choke plain barrel. Nothing fancy, just a good working man's shotgun.
I was dismayed the first time I pulled the trigger plate out of it and the shell stop hit the floor... 8^). Too acccustomed to staked-in ones as on 870s, I was.
Enjoy that old self-shucker, and stay safe,
