Hi! I'm in the Raleigh, NC area and I'm interested in trying out a Glock (9mm preferred, but any caliber ok), a 1911, a kel-tec, an AK-47 (7.62 preferred), and an AR-15. If you have _any_ of these that you would be willing let me try, I will meet you at the range (I usually use FETC, but can meet elsewhere if you don't have a membership there) and pay for ammo and a shared lane (which, obviously, you can use too :) It doesn't take a whole hour to try out a firearm, afterall :p). I also have an M48 and a Kahr P9 that you can shoot (I have plenty of ammo) in exchange for using your ammo, if you'd rather.

PM or reply here if you can help me out.

Thanks!

If you go up to "The Range", in Oxford, they have IDPA and three gun matches. The IDPA matches are the first and second Sunday of every month, and the entry fee is $15. Lots of nice folks, with Glocks, 1911's ect. I'm sure you could shoot a few different firearms there. TJ

Yup, Frank's place is good to go. Long drive is all.
I'm downtown in Raleigh and have the Glock and Keltec for ya to shoot. AR-15 too but nowhere very convienent to shoot it. I usually go to PDHSC; haven't been in a while, so drop me a PM if you want to go try those two out.

since your already in raleigh, you might want to check out davi's guns/indoor range. They have a range and rent out alot of handguns for you try out. I'm not sure about the rifles though.

Just about to step out and go to the shop when I saw this post. I went to Davi's a couple times when I first moved here. Their prices on everything are absurdly high. Additionally, their "RO's" look like they're in high school and have no shooting experience whatsoever. If you want to have some kid yell at you for firing more then 1 round every 10 seconds, drop right on by. Otherwise, I don't recommend them. Shame it's so mismanaged cause they have a really nice range otherwise, but I just can't stand the harassment.

Ya, I've been to Davi's- their prices _are_ really high and one of their sales ladies was so rude to me once I nearly cried. I'm not a fan.

Plus, I'd rather meet someone who will let me try out their firearm and tell me what they think of it, nuances, etc. than just pay $5 or whatever and have to buy house ammo to try a rental with little social interaction. Social range time is fun!

I'm not a huge fan of PDHSC's staff, but I am willing to go there to meet to shoot.

Just FYI all around :)

I usually prefer to shoot at the Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center (http://www.wakegov.com/firingrange/default.htm), but unfortunately I don't own any of the guns you're interested in. You'd be welcome to put a few mags through my XD-45, though.

PDHSC is a decent place. I've bought a few guns from them, and always been impressed with their service and prices. Unfortunately their range is pistol-only, and when I get time to shoot I generally prefer taking a pistol and one or two of my rifles.

Does anybody have any information on CCW classes in the area? Thanks in advance.

There's a pretty good class at the Wake FETC, ~$65.

PDHSC http://www.pdhsc.com also offers classes and while they're more expensive, you're getting taught by the gent that wrote the course for the state. I'm also an CCH instructor in NC.

Thank you also, sir. I'd like to take a course sometime in the very near future. I'll investigate both options. I appreciate the prompt responses, I didn't know where to turn on this but I've decided I should take care of this before I make another firearm purchase.

Sorry to hijack the thread....

I took Charlie's class and he is good to go. I will second the recommendation.

This post makes me think we should arrange a group shoot close to Raleigh (or a drive to The Range). I also believe there are several members of SSI here and maybe we could arrange that as well.
I have a few of the firearms you are interested in.
What is FETC?
