I just ran into the link and found it to be a very interesting setup. Assuming one had the disposable income to buy one (I don't) of these how would the NFA rules be applied? Obviously $200 for the configs that are SBS, but do you also register the same same reciever as an AOW, or is it legal in AOW config since it's already a registered SBS?

it is EITHER an AOW or a SBS. if its made with a pistol grip from the start, its an AOW. if a stock is attached, at ANY POINT, it is a SBS and can only be a SBS from then on.( once a rifle always a rifle) ofcourse those are the rules for us mere peasants. (as i understand them)

but since this is sold to the Military, these rules dont apply.

I want that tube/barrel clamp rail! I can't find anything similar in the market...just tube clamps or the ridiculous airsoft looking monster triple clamp things that sell everywhere. Does remington have a parts department, and will sell something benign like that to sheeple or they'll restrict it?

Lee, I just tried the search function which now works better. Previously if I'd entered 870 MCS it would have either brought up every 870 thread or told me that MCS and 870 were too short of terms to search. Now that V-Bulletin has improved the search feature I'll try it first.

Cesium, there is nothing about the railed bbl/mag clamp that would make it restricted. Call Remington directly and see what they'll do. If they won't sell it direct send a PM to Correia, who's a Class 3 dealer, and he should be able to order it for you from either Remington's Military or LE sales dept.

ugaarguy,

But didja see the answer to your question in the thread I posted the link to? I saw an 870 MCS for sale on one of the online auction sites not long after that thread ran. It would be a fun thing to have but I can't justify the $$$ and even an AOW is more paperwork than I want to mess with when I can get by with an 18" barrel just fine.

Hmm. Just looked again, and guess what??
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=66901381 These seem to be papered as SBSs though.

Stay safe,

They would need to be, otherwise you couldn't attach a stock to them.

From the previously cited thread---

Granted this is the errornet at work, i did not question the poster any more closely about the paperwork involved in his stated purchase... . But he said AOW, and IIRC the one I saw listed for sale at about the time the previous thread ran was listed as an AOW. That was what momentarily tempted me to buy it...

---And the one listed at http://precisionweapons.com/cartgenie/prod-366.htm is an AOW too. I don't know a whole lot about what drives the paperwork on this stuff, as I said I am not even willing to do AOW paperwork and haven't looked into it much. Take it all as FWIW, if you want one do your own due dilligence...

MCS-- available to civilians? Why certainly!
Hello All,

While doing a google serach of the MCS I came across this forum. Let me go on record as to say that the Remington MCS is available for civilian purchase. I know this because according to Remington I am the first individual to purchase one as the end user, transferee. Someone asked if the MCS transfers as an AOW or an SBS, the answer is AOW, believe it or not. Which is great news, $5 beats $200 any day! Of course the bad news is that you must live in an area that allows for NFA ownership. Since I will be the only person in the country who privately owns one of these it will get lonely. It was an experience trying to acquire it, if you think you can get one transferred to you, email me for some helpful hints.

Looks like you can get one configured as an AOW (http://www.autoweapons.com/photos06/jan/870lmbreech.html) or an SBS (http://www.autoweapons.com/photos06/jul/remingtonmcs.html).

Looks like the AOW comes with a pistol grip, one barrel, and no stocks.

Yep Lee I saw the answer in the thread linked. It looks like it's either an SBS or AOW depending on who you ask. I have to agree though, that at $1200 + NFA paperwork for the MCS an 18" 870P at half the price and no NFA forms makes more sense. Heck, even an 870P Max with Wilson tritium rifle sights, Surefire forend, and Speedfeed pistol grip buttstock is less money. The full MCS kit sure is neat though.

Thanks ugaarguy, I only seemed hesitant because Remington doesn't seem to even sell the 870P unless you're a Remington dealer that caters specifically to LE (or so it goes, local gun store doesn't have 870Ps either unless they're trade-ins)

Hello,

new to the forum, found out about thehighroad thru a bing search on the 870 MCS. Looks like the last post on this was a couple years ago.

I've asked my local dealers and they have never heard of it. Has anyone purchased one recently? Are they still available for civilians?

many thanks
