I've inherited a fair amount of ammo from a departed friend. It's S&B 12ga 2 3/4" 00 buckshot. The hulls are semi-clear, and one can see the pellets and powder inside. Pretty cool, actually.

There's too much snow cover to attempt any shooting/patterning here. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this ammo, and your impressions. Thank you.

There's a case or five of it here at Casa Lapin too.

Smells like a burning mattress when you shoot it. And since the pellets are dead soft lead, and unprotected by fancy stuff like plastic wads or grex, it patterns in what might kindly be called an open fashion.

S&B is the household 'to whom it may concern' buckshot here, for those long dark nights when there is nothing abroad but ghoulies and ghosties and things that go bump in the night. It's for those times when target discrimination is not an issue and the most liberal broadcast of blue whistlers possible is called for. It excels at that function.

And it was CHEAP. So we bought lots. Seems your friend did too. Just don't expect anything resembling tight patterns from it.

It's the HD round here at Festung Scout.

A friend gave me some of those very rounds you describe. As Mr. Lapin noted, the pattern does open up quickly...not neccesarily a bad thing.

Over all, decent buckshot load, but do note the limits...without a shot cup or buffer material, pellet dispersion is quicker than say Rem/Fed/Win with the cup & buffers

Good stuff. I use the 12 pellet count shells.
Also use S&B 27 count #4 buckshot.

This is an average of what the S&B 00 buck does from a 20 inch barrel. Of course your shotgun may pattern a little different.

15 yards.

26 yards. The pasters are from the first two shots before adjusting the sight. Even though the gun was shoting too far right all but two pellets still stayed on target.

I typically stick with Winchester 00 Buck for my HD load, but S&B was good for blasting away old appliances in the desert!

it'll do a number on a pumpkin out of a 18 1/2" s x s

One thing to note is even though it it " 2 3/4 " it is longer then other 2 3/4 shells. Your shotgun will hold one less shell.

But I think most shells only hold 9 pellets in their 2 3/4 inch shells.

S&B has 12 and 9.
What's strange is in the Cheaper Than Dirt catalog the 12 is cheaper than the 9 pellet. $3.19-$3.69 for 10 shells.

Thanks for the info. Another blankety-blank snowstorm moving in tonite! I'll try these shells when I'm able.

They are a little bit longer, but my 870 holds five.

It's my "in the house stranger in the middle of the night needs an attitude adjustment" medicine- I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of it

S&B 00 makes good cheap training rounds, I have fired cases of the stuff, but I wouldn't use them for detail work like HD. I'd rather trust the tight groupings i get from Federal reduced-recoil 00.
S&B is also very dirty, don't know if this affects my semi-auto shotgun's operation, but don't plan to find out.

i like the stuff, it stays in the BPS under my bed, but like others said, it is longer than other 2 3/4. which means one less.
