who here has removed an L1A1 charging handle and can enlighten me on how its done? I just ordered a Tapco charging handle and was looking at the one already on my rifle and can't figure out how it comes off:scrutiny:

Is there a trick to it or is it not as hard as it looks, and what tools do I need to do it? I see a tiny pin on the top of the handle do I have to punch that out somehow? I'm no gunsmith so I don't want to do any unnessasary damage.

Thanks

I think (But am not 100% positive) that all FAL types are pretty much the same. From the bottom, drive the little pin out. The pin will be right behind the knob in a swelled section of the rod. Work from the bottom so you wont have to constantly look at slip marks and dings! After the pin is out, pop the limiter tab out. You may have to do it from inside the receiver if it's tight. When reassembling, make sure that the limiter tab goes in right side up. Otherwise the little pin will not have a hole to fit thru. Keep yer powder dry, Mac.

That's the way to do it. Did you get the folding handle? It makes it very much more comfy when the rifle is slung.
