new PT145 user range report

got a PT145 recently here is how it shot for me.

FYI. I have not shot a handgun in over 8 yrs...and am no marksman by any means.

See here for descriptions on targets.

1st time out shot 150 rnd of Fiocci ball and 50 rnds of S&B ball
had one hard primer 3 pulls no fire (but practiced tap-rack-bang), forgot what lot of ammo it was, and one failure to go fully into battery (did a sort of forward assist and bang).
***I did not clean prior to first outing as I wanted to see how it would do greased up. the failures seemed to have come on the last two boxes which seems understandable as it would take a bit to get the lube to flow through the gun and gum it up.

2nd time out ****cleaned this time**** 150 rounds of fiocci and 100 of American something or other plus 20 of 188gr corbon +p. No failures of any sort. Shot one handed with 230 gr ball recoil not too bad and was ok to controll even for me(Im not a big guy at 5'2" and 130 pound and have small hands). The corbon well what can I say but WOW!!! What a kick!!! Nothing I wouldnt not carry. It was actually what I really expected with the short barrleled gun with normal ball rounds. The PT145 is VERY recoil friendly IMO. I think the 185gr +P in any brand will be my defence round to give the bullet a FPS boost in the short barrel. wont be shot often just enough to keep proficent.

at about 20ft on a TQ6 target 2 handed slow shoooting I was around a 3-4"group (guesstimate as I had no ruler) edited to add I had one arm braced against the stop

then used a B29 and TT-1 (like the TT-1 on the low lit indoor range) at 15-25-50 ft. shooting faster with a few double taps etc. with the exception of a few fliers (all in silhouette at 15-25 and a few out at 50) the groups were about 4-6"-68"-9-11" repectivly not competition by any means but not that bad for 8 yrs no hand gunning and close enough to hit center mass inside the house or at "typical" gunfight ranges.

***note I shot corbon slower and more controlled only to see how it fed and was not as concerened with the above tests) altough it seemed accurate enough***

all in all Im well pleased with recoil, accuracy, and reliability (after cleaning that is) that when I return it will be my CCW piece

I heard with Winchseter White box the PT145 has lots of problems with light pin strikes. You think you can test it out.:o PLEASE!!!!

I really like the PT145 but WWB is all i shot. Price wise locally cant be beat.

Glad to hear you are liking yours. I bought one but had problems with it, posted on another thread here. Mine is off to Taurus so I hope it gets fixed so I'll have a great PT145 like the rest of you.

Not sure if it matters or not but I have the PT140 and all I shoot for range is WWB and have not had one problem. Maybe the 145 is different though.

I have the 2nd generation DAO it, and yes, it does have problems with the Winchester White box...or on any real hard primers. Nice that it is DAO as one just pulls the trigger again and the lightly struck round goes need to go through an immediate action drill. I found that it likes Gold Dot and Corbon DPX. With those rounds, I have never had a problem in any shape or form.:)

I shoot WWB primarily through my 2nd gen and 3rd gen Mil Pros with no problems. (your mileage may vary)

When I first bought my PT-145 Millennium Pro, all I shot through it was Winchester White Box from Wal-Mart. I probably shot at least 1000 rounds of the 230gr. FMJ and I never experienced any of the problems you guys are having. I did however find that MagTech 230gr. FMJ shot tighter groups and more consistently to point of aim that WWB. The next 1000 rounds were MagTec. I also found that the MAgTec shot to the same POA as the Federal 230gr. HydraShoks I carry for SD. Finding the MagTec's in the 250 round multipacks was great and they were about the same as buying two 100 packs and one 50 round box of WWB.

Grats. MilPro PT145 DAO owner here. One hard primer in aprox 1000 rounds. Everything else went bang first pull.

Great little gun and how can you go wrong with 10 rounds of 45ACP?

I have a 3rd generation Mil Pro PT 145 and have easly put over 1000 rounds, all 230 grain. Not one problem

I know that Taurus had problems with the 1st and 2nd generation, but I have not had one problem with this. I check it for cracks and not one problem. I also had the barrel crowned last week and what an improvment on grouping!
