Is it ok to just drop by and do a bit of shooting if you don't have a EBR?

SuperNaut
March 1, 2007, 10:18 PM
EBR's are a state of mind. ;)

Nightcrawler
March 1, 2007, 10:27 PM
Why not? At the last one George Hill had his Cowboy Assault Rifle there. (16" Marlin .30-30 with a red dot...)

I'll try to make it if I'm not working... Where is it at, I can't look at that link at work :fire: .

If I'm able to go, I'll bring a new steel shooting tree from Cabelas. It's got 4 steel plates on either side that swing to the other side when hit. Works w/ 9mm - 30-06.

Come on by, folks! It's going to be Epic!! Stop by saturday, camp there at night, or come back Sunday!

Nightcrawler
March 5, 2007, 07:17 AM
From PvtPyle:

The 20th is for Minions and range help. That is about the only time we will get to shoot and have fun. We will blast a few tresspassers with NVD's and Thermals if we can lure them in. Marcus will bring the electronic coyote call and the grenade launcher again.

We will be bringing a grill or two for Saturday, so bring some food to grill.

It is family friendly, so bring the kids.

BTW, it is open to all comers. Bring your safety hat and your boom stick. The only thing is that you have to introduce yourself and be friendly!

We're still scouting some good locations. We'll make sure it gets posted well in advance.

Damn. Why is all the fun on the otherside of the country?

I know some pretty good places in the West Desert. BLM land, w/ good back stops, firewood, plenty of room for RVs, tents, parking, etc.

Break out a topo map and check this area out: The old Pony Express trail past Faust goes over a pass and after there are some pretty good spots. It's near Dugway Proving Grounds though, so I don't know if they would spot the group and scramble the F-16s and black helicopters when they saw our "militia".

Also, there are some good places on BLM land near the FARM.

I'm excited! I missed the last get together w/ FBMG and the trailer of ammo.

Correia: will FBMG be going to this event?

Nightcrawler
March 5, 2007, 08:26 PM
I don't know where the FARM is. FBMG will be there, though.

We went to The Bowl last time, but it gets too crowded and you have too many fools in Jeeps and on quads trying to zip over your backstop.

PM any good suggestions to either PvtPyle or Correia. We don't want it TOO far out in the boonies, 'cause then no one will show up, but it's got to be remote enough where everybody in the county won't be trying to drive through your firing lane.

Let's try not to wander out into the bomb range, too. :D

grizz
March 5, 2007, 09:52 PM
Here's a link to the FARM: http://www.udpl.net/FARM/farm.html

There's a map on the bottom of the page. I've shot a Utah Defensive Pistol League match there. It's an awesome facility.

Maybe we could even hold the event at the FARM if there isn't a match that weekend, or Law Enforcement training. I'd imagine they'd be OK with it if everyone chipped in some $ and chipped in via cleanup, etc.

I'll email them and ask. Can't hurt to ask, right?

Correia
March 6, 2007, 10:51 AM
Grizz,

We don't want to do it at the FARM.

Correia: will FBMG be going to this event?

Yeah, and we're bringing about half a dozen different belt feds to rent. The problem with the FARM is that their berms have eroded and are getting too short. You can shoot normal stuff there, but you aren't going to be shooting beltfeds. Too much dispersion and climb.

We need a mountain to shoot in to. :)

grizz
March 13, 2007, 06:26 PM
Roger. FARM not adequate for belt-fed goodness.

Any update on a location? I can't access AR-15.com at work.

Correia
April 5, 2007, 04:33 PM
Update:

We'll know on Monday where the shoot will be held.

We're bringing about 30 NFA items, and a truckload of ammo.

The Sig Arms rep is coming, and bringing one of everything, so if there are any Sigs that you've been interested in trying out, he'll have them there for you to play with.

Nightcrawler
April 8, 2007, 05:42 AM
Will he have a five-five-six, or can he not get those either? :D

PvtPyle
April 9, 2007, 11:31 PM
OK, the location will be at Big Shots. There is a fee, $10 for individuals and $15 for dads and kids. The fees will be well worth it once you guys see the clubs house and everything that is available to us. Thw 2500 sqft club house is going to be great to get out of the sun, and the firing line is covered. That will be very nice! Lots of steel and cars to light up. They said we can blow the hell out of the cars, even with the tannerite.

We will have lunch available. Hamburgers and hot dogs with chips a drink and maccaroni/potatoe salad, $5 for adults and $2 for kids.

The Sig rep will be there and we are trying to get a NRA/kids safety course set up.

One of our instructors will be doing a combat pistolcraft clinic on Saturday around 4pm.

Saturday night, we will blow up some more stuff and shoot some MG's and other stuff at night.

Sunday we may shoot some more if there is an interest.

We will have ammo for sale and of course the MG rentals. I will post the rental prices tomorrow, but compaired to the other places that rent them, it will be very reasonable.

The best way to get there is to go out I-80 to exit 88. Get off, go about 3 miles and turn left at the big sign.

We will open the range about 9 AM and have the range safety brief then. We will have another at noon. Wihle the red shirts run the range, EVERYONE is responsible for safety.

For those helping set up Friday and run the event over the weekend, we are going out about noon to begin set up. As soon as that is done we will begin shooting and run into the night.

Anyone have questions?

Nightcrawler
April 10, 2007, 02:29 AM
That's I-80 east, right? Is it on the east side of I-15 or the west?

I've got my red shirt ready to go. I feel like one of the disposable Star Trek security guys... :uhoh: :D

skinnyguy
April 10, 2007, 02:34 AM
Nightcrawler,

If you are near Salt Lake or anywhere to the east of there, you will be going WEST on I-80.

atomicferret
April 10, 2007, 05:09 AM
It is I-80 west, headed in the general direction of wendover. The ranch is on the south side of the freeway. Like PvtPyle said, you have to go about 3 miles, you'll then see their sign on the left.

If you are anywhere near Utah, you HAVE to come shoot with us. you'll be kicking yourself if you only get to participate via youtube...

April 11, 2007, 12:39 AM

7.62X25 Subgun 30rds $10
7.62X39 30rds $10
7.62X54R 100rds $25

I'm supposed to be heading out on a much needed vacation on the 20th. I'll see if I can talk the wife into delaying our departure, those cars aren't going to ventilate themselves!

Correia
April 11, 2007, 12:50 PM
Or blow themselves up with Tannerite either! :)

Gibbles
April 11, 2007, 02:12 PM
Are you guys going to have any 5.56 available? :D

ilcylic
April 11, 2007, 06:04 PM
Are the machine guns strictly "buy our ammo to run in them" or is there a possibility of "bring your own ammo and pay a flat rental fee" instead?

I have a lot of 54R I want to burn through.

Correia
April 11, 2007, 06:07 PM
We were using our own ammo for the machine guns, just because we knew its history, and didn't want to endanger the expensive stuff with mystery ammo.

If you've got surplus thats still boxed or sealed, PM PvtPyle about it. He's the armorer for the machine guns.

ilcylic
April 11, 2007, 06:18 PM
It's not still sealed, but it's still boxed. Light blue boxes, Czech silver-tip.

Understand completely about wanting to know what's going through the expensive and vaguely irreplaceable equipment.

Is the plan still for camping over on Saturday night, or should I plan on driving back to SLC to find a hotel?

Correia
April 11, 2007, 06:20 PM
Nope, we're camping. And I'm looking forward to it. The BS sessions around a campfire are usually my favorite part of get togethers. :)

ilcylic
April 11, 2007, 07:00 PM
I gotta say, all this happening the very day after my last day of classes this term (April 19th) is rather fortuitous. (Well, the public part is the 21st, but I have to drive up there, too.)

Best. Spring Break. EVER. :D

Nightcrawler
April 11, 2007, 08:23 PM
I'm SOOOOO looking forward to this. I'm bringing everything I got, so if anyone wants to try a FAL carbine, a 642 snub, or a .44 Mag, I gotcha covered.

2TransAms
April 11, 2007, 08:56 PM
Illinois sucks. Work sucks. I never get to shoot full-autos and BS around campfires with like-minded individuals.

ilcylic
April 11, 2007, 09:37 PM
NC: I'd like to try an FAL carbine. I'll bring a box of magazines.

I'll bring my .44s too. And the 10mm. And the .40.

Man, I hope I don't get stopped anywhere.

Gibbles
April 11, 2007, 09:40 PM
"Man, I hope I don't get stopped anywhere"

Me too, I'm going to have a "cashe of weapons"

Reminds me, I need to get some more locking cases... :D

SuperNaut
April 12, 2007, 12:11 AM
Officer: Do you have any weapons in the car?

You: Um, yes I do...

Officer: What kind?

You: All of them?

Nightcrawler
April 12, 2007, 07:49 AM
I'll bring a box of magazines.

Awesome sauce. I'll be bringing hundreds of rounds. I'm going to load up durn near every mag I have to see which ones work and which ones need tweaking. A couple of 'em were giving me grief last time out.

Anyway, gotta break in that new extractor. :D

So the more the merrier. I think I've got a bad lot of Afrikaaner ammo on my hands, so I'd like to test something else. Recoil shouldn't vary from shot to shot... :uhoh:

Correia
April 12, 2007, 01:06 PM
I got stopped coming back from a 3gun match once, and I had brought loaner guns. I had been too lazy to recase everything. So sitting in my back seat were 6 AKs, ARs, and Saigas. On the seat next to me was my plate carrier, filled with mags. I had a .45 on my hip openly, and several .45 mags on my left side.

He was totally cool. :)

I love Utah.

I always wondered what would happen if I got pulled over with the back of my suv filled with fun things. I don't want to end up in the paper with my guns spread out on a table or something. :(

Correia
April 12, 2007, 01:50 PM
Good rule of thumb, you be cool, they'll be cool. You freak out, they'll freak out.

That's true for 99% of Utah cops. However there is that small percentage that are gonna freak out no matter what. PvtPyle got pulled over by one of those a while back. Best thing to do is just remain calm, let them rant, let them disarm you, and then file a complaint the next morning when you are calm. It beats Riding The Lightning. :)

Ben Shepherd
April 12, 2007, 02:48 PM
Gibbles, unless you're inside the SLC metro area you should be fine. Even then, unless you get a bad officer you should be fine.

Like Correia, I've been stopped when my guns and ammo are pushing the GWV limit on my truck, no trouble at all.

Yes I did marry a good one!! She's coming out, we'll be camping both nights. I'll have some spare sleeping gear if anyone needs it. I'll make sure to bring out the 357 maximum.

Thefumegator

Corriea

The airlines are only willing to let me pack 11 pounds of 7.62x39 which really isnt all that much, you think you might have a case about for purchase? Or better yet, I have a case sitting here on the floor, what would it take for me to send it your way?

Nightcrawler
April 13, 2007, 04:40 AM
Shipping ammo is a PITA, bro. You've got to do all of the ORM-D labelling and everything. I'd call FEDEX and ask them what you'd need to do.

If you still want to do it, just ship it to me. You can trust me! I don't own anything in 7.62x39, so it'll be here when you get here! :D

EZ CZ75
April 13, 2007, 06:53 AM
This is the one thing so far that makes me wish I was still in SLC. I moved last fall to Alaska and am finally finding something that I miss (besides the usually target).

Grizz, make sure you call me when you are out there! I want to hear the MG's again. Ahh, such sweet music!!!

Curly
April 13, 2007, 09:37 AM
ET... Pyle or Larry can correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I believe they will have a lot of 7.62x39 available, so don't worry about going to the heavy expense of shipping yours.

--- official FBMG Minion

Ben Shepherd
April 13, 2007, 09:46 AM
I believe the FBMG crew will have PLENTY of ammo avalible. We'd look pretty stupid inviting everyone out to shoot guns just to say "Uummm....we're out of ammo."

Correia
April 13, 2007, 10:44 AM
I'm bringing a bunch of ammo, but ammo right now is expensive and scarce, so it won't be as much as I would like to have.
But should be enough.

ilcylic
April 13, 2007, 11:40 AM
So, what's the plan for meals? Are you guys bringing food we can just pitch in for, or should we plan to pack our own camping foodstuffs?

(Writing all these little comments makes me realize how long it's been since I've gone camping without a huge support crew. [SCA household, Burning Man contingent] I'm thinking I may have never actually gone camping "by myself" before. Always with the Boy Scouts, or church groups, or somewhere else where communal meals were the norm. Heh.)

I'm starting to wonder if all this stuff is going to fit in the little Jetta!

Correia
April 13, 2007, 11:59 AM
We're bringing food to BBQ on the pits there for lunch on Saturday. Hotdogs & hamburgers, and are going to charge $5. Other than that, you're on your own. :)

If you are coming in from out of town you can mapquest directions to the intersection of Burmester Rd and Higley Rd in Grantsville, UT. That will get you pretty darn close to the range. Just keep your eye out for the Big Shot Ranch sign.

Man, I wish I were going to be back from my deployment in time to enjoy this, it looks like fun. Hopefully we'll have another (and another... and another...) as the summer/fall come around.

Regarding driving with weapons, not to get too much OT, when I got stationed in CA I had to move my registered AWs there, and I was deathly afraid of getting stopped by Barney Fife and having him get all spun up about my rolling arsenal. On the same token, when I was leaving the state a year later, I was anxiously awaiting the CA/NV state line. Sure, I was legal, but I didn't want to pay $69,000 in legal fees to prove it.

Ben Shepherd

Current weather predictions are for possibilities of rain & snow showers this weekend, so bring rain gear and warm clothing just in case they're right.

Edited: This was an earlier forecast which has since changed for the better.
Spring weather in Utah is dicey to forecast. "Be Prepared" applies.

Thanks to everyone who made it out. We had a great time shooting the PK's and sub-guns. The Tannerite made the night shooting as exciting as the day. We hope to have a video compilation of the event put together soon.
Next time, no one has an excuss, we had people come from CA, NM, CO, even TN.

Thanks again to everyone for making a safe, fun event.

Hey thanks for putting this event on, I hope to see it happen every year, maybe again early fall? ;) I would love to see this turn into something like Knob Creek one day.
A Big thanks to the guy that did the pistol class, I'll be figuring out everything I learned for the next little bit.
Maybe FBMG can start stocking .223 and 7.62x39? your guys store is a little out of the way for me, but it would give me an excuse to drive out there more often.
And thanks to the SIG Rep, I had alot of fun shooting those guns, and I think my next pistol will be Sig.
I hope everyone that was there on Friday night enjoyed my AR pistol (flame thrower).

Gibbles, that was your gun with the 55 gallon drum size muzzle blast? :D My kids enjoyed the show.

I'll pass your thanks on to the instructor. He's an awesome guy, and will be flying out here to do another full length, Fri-Sunday class.

The folks from Bigshots were great to provide the use of such a nice range for this kind of thing.

We do try to keep .223 and 7.62x39 bulk in stock, but ammo is a killer right now. Everything has gone through the roof, and availability sucks. We'll be restocking because of this shoot though.

Glad to hear it, I really had alot of fun with that thing on Friday, although I wish I had worn sun glasses when I pulled the levang muzzle device off. :D
That was the first time I have fired that thing at night. :)
I wish I could of stuck around for the night shooting on Saturday, I was to darn tired and falling asleep on the couch, and when I dropped my wife off at home around 2, I took the camping gear out along with my coat. :banghead:

When is the other pistol class, and how much will it cost?

And I would love to know how much your charging for ammo.
I have been mostly shooting .223 lately, and my AK has been pretty much mothballed, mostly due to a lack of cheap wolf.
