As of February 1st I am approaching a 3 year wait for a custom rifle that I so badly wish to use in Tejas this April. Anyone else have a horror story?

Can you give us some details on this rifle? Personally, I think three years is a bit much. You must be a greater man than I for I could never fathom waiting 3 bloody long years for a rifle

I've been "test-firing" your new gun for the last several months. It's almost there. I'll have my initials sanded out and get it UPS'd to you as soon as I find all the parts.;)

I waited a year and a half for a QUOTE for a C. Sharps, and then had to call and ask for my money back [ he charged for quotes]. Took 2 years to get a rifle made up from Al Story, but the wait was worth it.

I gave a Turkish Mauser action, a .30 cal Lilja barrel and some money to my favorite gunsmith in November of '01.

It is now January of '03.

He stopped by my house today to drop some stuff off.

"You got that Turk done yet?"
"Almost. It's sitting on my bench right now. The stock's inlet, I just need to drill & tap for the scope mounts. Almost done."

Getting the Homeboy Discount also means getting perpetually bumped to the Back Of The Line. ;)

Ed, thanks much, at least I know it's sighted in.:D

Tamara, no discount. One would think one could make a rifle by hand in all this time.

One would think one could make a rifle by hand in all this time. One would think you could learn to be a gunsmith yourself in three years.

For the cost of some of these projects it would sure pay for a lot of training, books and a C&R licence so you get a discount at Brownells.

Unless you are having intricate engraving done---3 years is waaaaay too long----Come on, this isn't rocket science or brain surgery.

After all this time--I would be a major thorn in their side with the daily phone calls and constant pestering. Think they would hurry up and get it done just to get rid of me.

DMK, some days the thought of becoming a gunsmith (or cabdriver, or whatever) crosses my mind a lot!:D

I've been waiting only 5 weeks for my RRA National Match lower to arrive and I'm going nuts waiting now.

I couldn't even imaging waiting 3 years for anything. For that amount of time i'd be thinking ROADTRIP!! Maybe showing up at the front door with a couple of buddies will motivate them to get it done.

I hope when you get it the wait was worth it. I pity that guy if you have to send it back because something isn't right. :fire:

Very sad news to report. While in the office today, the phone rang and I found out what happened to my rifle(s). Apparently the poor soul who was working on them, suffered a medical condition as of last year. A rifle of mine was involved in a historical re-enactment of the Korean War by the afflicted individual. The shoppe contained dozens upon dozens of other weapons or pieces of weapons in various states of repair.

The guardian, a colleague, recognized my mangled business card taped to the stocks of the rifles and called me. I had two, but had forgotten about one. The release is scheduled to be signed this Friday. No work was done to either firearm (other than being in pieces).

Drawing upon the collective wisdom of THR, who would you recommend for rifle work? I will need a stock shortening, bolt slick, barrel crown and lap, and trigger work. The weapons are a Mauser M66 and an older Ruger M77 RSI. I thank you for your time.

El Tejon- That is a pretty big setback! I've never had any work done by Jim Brockman but I hear the quality is tip top. The only thing that you want that isn't listed is the stock shortening, but I'm sure he'll do it for you.
