He is lobbying against a recently passed clarification of the concealed handgun act that woud prevent routine posting of public property against chl. Most of the examples he gave could still be posted under standing sections of the act:
1. city hall - under government meetings;
2. Police Stations- most are off limits due to holding prisoners;
3 conventon centers- Anti CHL signs have already cost them NRA and SHOT meetings.

Lee Brown is the worst. I lived in Houston when he was Chief of Police, which I think was after he was Chief Of Ploice of Atlanta, and before that I think CoP in NYC (IIRC). He's a guy who has done a remarkable job of building a world class resume, while achieving very little where ever he's gone. He's a classic example of the cop turned politician. As far as I remember, Houston police morale hit some new lows under his watch. When he was elected Mayor of Houston I could only think the person he ran aginst must have really been weak. geegee

Earlier as drug czar under President Clinton, he gave many a speech about how we're winning the war on drugs and how we just need to keep locking 'em up. Now it appears he wants to apply the same police-state tactics to those of us who act as if self-defense were a human right. I've seen him speak live and up close. He struck me as a strongly totalitarian bureaucrat who would gladly click his heels together and carry out any unconstitutional order that D.C. sent him. Were it up to him, there's not a doubt in my mind he would just as soon criminalize the civilian possession of all firearms.

It's Leapy alright. the link to the article just showed up on www.tsra.com. Houston City Hall has been turned into a Fort to keep disgruntled citizens at bay. The government people inteviewed are definately afraid of the citizenry.

Sounds like something out of the early days of the Republic (US, Not Texas). The ideal situation where the government fears the people rather than vice-versa. Of course, they never said it would be ideal if the people not only didn't fear the government but held it in complete contempt.
