I bought this knife
http://budk.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_BK950
and this one
http://budk.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_RR387
Only costed $23 all together including shipping
I will get them sometime this week or so.
The knives look better than most I have seen for those prices at other places.

No offense intended, but BudK mostly sells garbage to the unsuspecting.

The last knife on the list may be illegal to carry or even own depending upon your state.

I've handled the middle knife and the lock is unrelable and dangerous.

I can't tell about the first because the link takes us to a whole page of items.

Please look at your state laws before ordering from catelogues so you can make an informed decision about whether you can carry what your hard earned money was spent on.

I'll suggest a better fixed blade for only slightly more money http://www.sierratradingpost.com/p/,73364_Bear-and-Son-Cutlery-Tactical-Knife-Designed-By-Blackie-Collins.html
and a better folder, again for just a bit more money
http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=GB8485 - Wal-Mart has this one for $10 by the way so there's no shipping to worry with either.

Neither knife is a top end piece, but both are certainly serviceable and safe for inexpensive working knives.

Go to www.eknifeworks.com. It's the Smokey Mountain Knife Shop. They have the best deals around and I mean brand name closeouts too.

The only thing I think I've seen worth buying form BudK was a kusarifundo (I think he called it a manriki chain) that actually held up for years of training. I believe I might have seen one of the smaller Ontario Black Wind swords sold by him once, too.

That's it.

Can I still use those knives for defense?

DM,

Any knife can be used for self-defense, once.

I would test the folder to make certain it isn't going to fold up on your fingers and injure you if you're forced to use it.

Otherwise, get them sharpened professionally and then don't ever cut anything with them to keep from having to send them for sharpening again. Use them on in the event of an absolute emergency.

They do seem to have a good deal on the Kabars @ $39, but most of their stuff is low end.

I'd certianly test it, but for a defencs knife ,you might be better off spending about thirty bucks, and get something you know is durable.

sure can.

With the folder, I'd avoid stabbing and stick to slashing to avoid closing it on your fingers (a good general rule anyway).

As for the fixed blade, it depends on the handle. looks like rubber in the pic, so be sure your hand won't slide onto the blade and the blade won't slide out of the handle. Hopefully it's full tang. (the more 'tang the better)

I got the two knives today and I gave them a simple paper and cardboard test they both cut through it like a razor. They feel sturdy enough for the purpose I intend it for which is defense.I will carry the body guard knife in my belt, and the elite folder in my pocket.I do have two better knives than them a 30 or 40 year old Solingen Stag horn hunting knife with a leather case where I can also attach to my belt and a german folder.

The boot knife will be considered a concealed weapon in FL and without a carry permit you could be violating the law and charged with a misdemeanor. (http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/fl.txt)

Could I open carry it?
I still will have the folder in my pocker though
I never knew a concealed knife needs a concealed weapon permit I thought it was only for handguns.

The concealed knife issue is a misdemeanor if you don't have a CCW permit. With the CCW in FL you can carry anything classified as a concealed weapon.

Go to www.eknifeworks.com. It's the Smokey Mountain Knife Shop. They have the best deals around and I mean brand name closeouts too. These guys have a pretty good to very good selection of knives from cheapos to really quality blades, but they certainly do not have the best prices around, not by a longshot of some of their offerings.

All the best,

I bought some knives from them in Jan and teh prices were decent compared to some of the other sites listed. Another member said it first quality comes witha price. Look at the prices of name brands and tell me who has the cheapest. This isn't an arguement, I really want to know the cheap sites.

I wont get caught because I wont attract attention to myself or act suspicious.I do what I want and I believe I have the right to carry what I want where I want.I am obviously not going to carry in a school or court room because of the higher jail sentence and problems.Same with a gun I will carry one if I feel that I need to or feel that something is not right.
Thank you for the heads up HSO

Do you think criminals will follow ccw laws too?
off course not when they want to carry they will carry what they want where they want for criminal purposes.Only difference is I wont do any criminal activities if I carry I just have it with me when ever the time would come where I need it.

I imagine everyone in cell block D said the same thing once upon a time.

Perhaps we can separate ourselves from criminals by not following suit, and following the law instead. What makes someone a criminal? Breaking the law, I would say. As it stands, the law requires a permit to carry a concealed weapon, and it's not really that strenuous a process. So why not just get one and not have to give a police officer good reason not to trust you (or worse)?

If you want a quality knife that is inexpensive not cheap for everyday carry 2" CRKT falcon. 4or 5" not sure which one Kabar short. Can order online or get from your next gun and knife show. I got mine for around 35 dollars one of my favorites.

i carry a pocket .22 mag revolver and pocket knives all the time. sometimes i'll carry my ruger 9mm(heavy but not that bad) in high risk areas. no permits or ccw.

i wonder what is the penalties if caught though. i live in louisiana. clean record. mind my own business. never cause trouble......well while im armed. if unarmed i seem to be a little more loose with my words and more willing to get into a fight.

You can get a decent knife cheap. Look at the Mora.

Cold Steel has some nice folders. The Gunsite series is pretty good, but pricey. Folders are more of a tool than a defensive knife. Good for slashing, not stabbing.

There's 2 schools of thought on knives. One is KISS, and the other is based on needs and usage. Cold Steel Master Hunter is a good knife, no frills.
SOG Seal Pup Elite has some rave reviews. Gerber LMF II is another good choice. Seems the GIs like them a lot. Good sheaths. Ontario SP knives are pretty good. For the price, you won't cry if you lose it. The RAT series is even better, but costs. Even the KA-Bar is a great knife, although somewhat dated.

No knife over about 5 inches of blade is going to be much good. Most are a hindrance rather than a help. If you are going that big, get a hatchet or a trenching tool, or maybe a machete.

Shopping around, EBAY, and other places, and you can find great deals on knives that you can stake your life on as far as reliability is concerned.
Best bet is a fixed blade, and a small folder for backup, and close in technical work. A good knife is the most important tool in the tool box. Shop carefully, read up on them all, and take your time.

Here is a great little fixed blade I got off e-bay, Its about 6.75 long. has preformed very well for me, made by smith & Wesson. I think it was less than $30.00. do a google for S/W knives. sheath is top quality also.
