Ugliest gun ever...

March 3, 2007, 02:23 AM
Obviously, this is just my personal opinion, but the new DSA TP9 tactical pistol is really ugly....

My general distaste towards all things "tactical" obviously colors my opinion strongly, but for the love of pete, how much crap can you mount on a pistol? Is it really necessary for a pistol to have a 4 rail system on it? Call me a luddite, but if you can justify that much junk on your gun then you probably call yourself an "operator" and wear cammies and tactical nylon gear 24/7 despite the fact that you washed out of the Webelos....

I's stupid. But the select fire, however, to me, is kinda cool.

March 3, 2007, 02:28 AM
Still not as ugly as a Webley.
It is a pistol in the sense that an Uzi is a pistol, so there is room for all those rails. Not that I am justifying that monstrosity, just saying.

March 3, 2007, 03:28 AM
A note of clarification: It seem DSA is an importer and/or distributor for this guns, not the manufacturer; it's made by Brugger & Thomet (hence B&T). As far as I know it's a derivative of the Steyr TMP.

As to its design: The rails et al. seem to be "corporate inertia" at work (going with the flow in terms of product design). I'm not particularly sure why they added a trigger safety in addition to the crossbolt safety.

March 3, 2007, 03:31 AM
/So apparently you have never seen a spector have you? Or a Glock for that matter.......did I just say that? :neener:

Seriously the Specter is worse.

March 3, 2007, 03:34 AM
pfft. Hi Point is uglier than them all.

I was going to let everyone know that this thing is actually a semi auto version of the very cool styer TMP, but someone else who has obviously played counterstrike beat me to it

March 3, 2007, 07:59 AM
pfft. Hi Point is uglier than them all.

Well that might be true, but at least Hi-Point are cheap. That thing is unly and expensive. At least it's expensive if I gotta write a check for it. :p

Unit Price: $1,250.00 :what:

March 3, 2007, 08:55 AM
Such a bulky, large 9mm pistol exists only becasue silly laws prohibit regular folks from buying new select fire versions. In SMG format, I can see quite a few uses for something that small and handy.

Even in semiauto format, though, I'd like one in .45. Give it a 30 round mag and I think it'd be a heck of a fun plinker. Expensive, though.

March 3, 2007, 11:36 AM
Since I can't own a Glock 18 here in Illinois I'll just stick with my Glock 34 and 25 shot magazine.

I have no idea why Steyr felt the world needed another machine pistol especially since there is a proliferation of H&K MP-5 and MP-5K subguns, several hundred thousand Glock 18 select fire pistols, Walther and Beretta subguns, and God only knows how many Czech Skorpion machine pistols floating around planet earth.
You would think Steyr would have wised up when the MPi 69 and MPi 81 subguns never really caught on anywhere.
Good marketing idea Steyr, now dump the product on the US in a semi auto form to try and recoup your R&D money,,,

March 3, 2007, 12:09 PM
Love the line where they call it "lightweight and compact"...compared to what? One of thier FALs?

Czech CZ 52 -- 7.62 X 25 mm. Ugly, ugly, ugly.

March 3, 2007, 04:33 PM
My opinion only, but to me the "ugliest gun ever" is the one pointed at me.

Other than that I consider beauty to be in the eye of the beholder.:)

If it burns powder, launches a projectile, and is used for good, I'm all for it. Having said that, those Glocks never did look right to me;)

March 3, 2007, 04:47 PM
I don't know about ugliest gun ever....

Its just a Steyr TMP clone

I think the T9SF package with, silencer, folding stock, ect it looks pretty cool.

Personally I think its a heck-of-alot nicer looking than a Mac-10:neener:

March 3, 2007, 05:36 PM
Well your opinion is wrong. :neener:

I like the look of that gun, and I do like the look of Hi-Point polymer frame, too. And Webleys look nice, too. CZ-52 does, too.

I feel there are several that can walk off with a prize, but one that has always struck me as an odd duck is FN's Five-sevenŽ Pistol. If I were given one as a gift, I would accept it. However, even if I had the extra cash for this pistol, I seriously would not purchase it. I simply cannot warm up to it. It doesn't look real; it doesn't feel real. It looks like a C02 BB pistol.

March 3, 2007, 11:00 PM
Still not as ugly as a Webley. -Croyance

I've got a Mark I that resembles that remark! :D

March 3, 2007, 11:46 PM
To the OP, that is the prettiest handgun ever.

Go use a flintlock gun.

March 4, 2007, 12:26 AM
Ugliest gun ever??? That's easy!:D

March 4, 2007, 08:28 PM
Tastes change. I found the Glock very ugly until this year. It just grew on me. I now own a G19. My biggest regret about it is that it took so long for me to see the beauty in the ugliness. :D

March 4, 2007, 11:08 PM
Tastes may change, but it will be a cold day in hell before you see me packing one of these DSA abominations around. I will concede that with the stock, they look sort of neat, but as a pistol? bleh.

March 5, 2007, 03:34 PM
I have a soft spot for machine pistols. If the '34 NFA ever is abolished, I would like to have one.

I don't understand the disdain for businesslike, functional machinery, overly accessorized or not. I find such mechanisms beautiful because they are nothing they are not. I dunno, aesthetics is a funny, often subjective thing.

March 5, 2007, 03:51 PM
The TP9 looks like a rip off of the Steyr TMP.

March 5, 2007, 05:57 PM
they work well...but face it, all "Blocks" are uuuuuggggggllllllyyyy!:neener:

March 5, 2007, 10:03 PM
Yes, Glock has shown us that a gun doesn't need to be purty to work well. But then, I've never owned a Glock, nor would I ever buy one. I'd rather have a Beretta 92 or a Smith & Wesson 659. Both guns are beauties, IMO, as are the old Gold Cups.

I wouldn't own any gun I wouldn't feel good about engraving. And I just can't imagine an engraved Glock.

March 5, 2007, 10:07 PM
it is a copy i hate cheapo copies but the ugliest gun ever goes to one of these

March 5, 2007, 10:13 PM
The Glock isn't that ugly. Its just you can get great peformance and drop dead good looks in other choices. Why settle for just great peformance?

That's where the SIGs come in, IMO.
March 6, 2007, 01:21 AM
Timbokhan, Sure the DSA gun is ugly, but then again it looks like something Ruger would be responsible for! Now if only Ol' Bill could be consulted via sayonce to mount the ever crapulent Zytel stock to it thus guaranteeing that it'll not only hurt to shoot but it'll look bad doing it!

March 6, 2007, 01:37 AM

Or the Glock.

Kind of like Vogon spaceships. Uglier things have been reported, but not by reliable witnesses.

Donning Nomex skivvies and ducking under the desk...

PS - Add the Nagant revolver to the list, I guess, but at least it looks that way because of how it works. It has to be ugly. The other two are ugly by choice.

March 6, 2007, 01:49 AM
but Hey it's tactical. I agree 4 rails is overboard.:scrutiny:

The Japanese Type 94 "Nambu" pistol is the ugliest gun. Ever. Don't believe me? Go HERE ( and take a look.

It's also a top contender for the biggest POS gun every made, too.

March 6, 2007, 07:56 PM
That is a Steyr SPP. B&T have the rights to build it. Other than a new top half[which fits the Steyr], and new's basicly the same exact pistol. I've had 2 SPP's, and with a red-dot sight.....very fun, accurate, and lightweight. It probably weighs about a third of a SP89, and half the size. It also is of European quality. Austrian/Swiss. Unless you've tried's stupid to criticize something of it's type.:neener:

March 6, 2007, 09:37 PM
I think that the Beretta PX4 is damned ugly.

March 9, 2007, 03:43 PM
Those Taurus guns are butt ugly!

March 9, 2007, 04:11 PM
The Colt 1911 and the Browning High Power are real UGLY!!

getting the popcorn out and
wait for it....wait for it... :neener:  Just Kidding.

The High point .45 and anything made Steyr is damn ugly. The beretta Neo in blue is just ugly and ungunlike. Same with the FN P90.

March 9, 2007, 04:49 PM
I still think this monstrosity has it beat:

March 9, 2007, 11:28 PM
The Dardick. (

March 10, 2007, 12:00 AM
The DSA gun isn't a "ripoff" of the Steyr TMP. Steyr discontinued the weapon and sold the manufacturing rights to B&T of Switzerland.

March 10, 2007, 12:36 AM
Because of that nasty comment, my Webley refuses to leave the safe.

March 10, 2007, 04:58 AM

One of the coolest guns ever made though! Too bad they didn't work.

March 10, 2007, 08:21 AM
The second model Husqvarna pistol. the first was a licensed copy of the Browning, looked nice, the second model was a shocker, looked awful, cracked slides every 500 rounds or so.

The really ugliest pistol was the one developed in the 60s that fired fleshettes, it was realllllllll homley!

I've looked down the barrel of a model 10 twice at work with 38x125Gn Hps loaded and a careless colleague, and boy that looked ugly!

March 10, 2007, 06:37 PM
Hey! That Thunder 5 is a little ugly, but I can sure see how it would be the right one to have sometimes. Kinda reminds me of the insert barrels that you can get for marine flare pistols to convert them to .410s (for traveling on a boat to places like Mexico, where guns are illegal for Gringos to carry). But, this has to be among the ugliest:
It took longer to load it than it did to make it... seriously

Nightcrawler beat me to it , its a nicely updated version of this :
I had a chance to buy the original for $800 last yeas , I think I should have .

March 11, 2007, 02:31 PM

The Liberator FP-45 in .45 ACP. Ugly, but apparently, it got the job done.

March 12, 2007, 11:40 PM
The Liberator FP-45 looks like a weapon confiscated from a prisoner, i would be scared that thing would blow up in my hand.
