Our local gunshop just got one of these in yesterday. Its a Model 29-8 Mountain Gun. Thats right....29, not 629. 4" tapered barrel without the full underlug, carbon steel, fully adjustable sights, with somekind of wooden finger grooved grips (probably Hogue?). And its current production too since its got the new internal lock.

Anyone hear of these yet?

I've seen them here in phoenix going for $599.99,the grips should be made by ahrends.I think they're nice guns and like the fact they're blued.

I bought one back in March. It sold for $550 here in Va. The grips are made by Ahrends and you also get a pair of rubber grips.
People have been complaining that Smith don't make many blue steel guns these days and this was the result of Smith listening to it's customers.

That and having a need to do something to sell all of the unsold 4 screw frames leftover from the heritage series guns.

In addition to the mountain gun check out the 6 1/2" Dirty Harry M29.

I'm having to seriously restrain myself from melting the visa card down by buying both at once.

a need to do something to sell all of the unsold 4 screw frames leftover from the heritage series guns. Atributable to that, more than any other reason.:p

I've been curious... why do the call the 4" barrel version of this a "Mountain Gun"? I'm guessing that its because its supposed to be easier to carry than a 5", 6.5" or 8"+ version.

Yes.... easier to carry with the shorter barrel...plus its tapered, lessening the weight more, plus the half lug rather than the full lug below the barrel making it lighter still. Not a WHOLE lot of fun with full power magnum loads though...in fact I have yet to use this sweetheart for anything over 1000 fps, and don't really plan to. I've got other toys for that. She's scary accurate with 250 gr. Keith bullets humming along at 850 fps though. I'm on my fourth box since March. I gotta keep feedin' that monkey...

Stop stop stop!!!

You have no idea how sorely tempted I am to head down to the shop and put one of these on layaway along with a 6 1/2" M29.

Stop it!!!!!!
