I've done this for years. My son played hockey for a while and then moved on to Football. I 'borrowed' one of his hockey pucks and drilled a hole in the center. Whenever I'm pounding pins out, this does the trick.

Now there's a handy trick :)

I think Savage Arms uses hockey pucks to make their recoil "pads", ouch!
