Anyone think of using Pistachio hulls for cleaning?

I love pistachios and eat em' by the tons. With every pistachio comes two shell halves. Seems to me I could get double duty out of them and possibly use them to clean brass. Anyone ever done this? Cleaned with pistachio shells? If walnut shells aren't too hard then I would think pistachios are ok as well. Maybe I gotta smush em' up a little with a hammer to get em' smaller but I would think they'd work. Seems like recycling to the max. :D

once I was struck with an idea of using peanut shells to try....

after rinsing off all the dust, I went back to crushed walnut via PetSmart. :)

Pistachios are soaked in a salt brine before roasting. I'm thinking the salt would do more tarnishing than cleaning. Ground corn cob is only $15.00 for 40 pounds at my local lumber yard, so I can't see where using anything else would be worthwhile.

Hope this helps.
