1300 defender recoil

Picked up a 1300 defender from a friend, and only have one gripe with it.
It kicks harder than my 1300 skeet gun.
The butt seems hollow, so I would assume its possible to add some weight to cut down the recoil.. has anyone tried it?
No one seems to make a better recoil pad that would fit it. If all else fails, I wouldnt object to trading the synthetic stock for a matt finished walnut.. if anyone has pointer to such a beast

The wood stocked one recoils a bit less. I have both--wood and synth stocked. You can get the wood stock from Winchester.

Better fit, better pad, better form, more weight and a lighter and slower load will all contribute to a better comfort level.
Adding weight to the butt may help the kick, but it'll move the balance point back. Muzzle light shotguns seem to kick harder for me.

I was rather expecting the extra weight would have side-effects, hence why I asked first.
The buttpad seems to be 5" x 1.5"
everything i'm turning up in brownells is 5.25 x 1.8 or larger. Is it safe to shave the packmyers down to match the original dimensions?
DRAM 3 2&3/4" shells are comfortible enough, but the recover time is miserabe after the 2nd or 3rd shell.
I've gone so far as to try shooting from the hip just to get the speed up... getting the windage is simple, but I can't get the elevation consistant yet

If you insist on hip shooting, I can't stop you, but it's a near useless technique,IMO. And I've fired lots of rounds doing it.
Keep your support elbow locked.
Why shave the pad down?
We're going for performance here, not esthetics. Leave it untrimmed, the extra surface area will spread out the push a bit. It'll look funny until you shoot it, then it'll look a lot better.
Recovery time will improve,trust me.

True enough, so long as it works I doubt i'll care how it looks.
My only protest with hip shooting is the inconsistancy. Along with 2 others we are running about 80% hits on 6x6 steel at under 30 feet.
I don't claim that its better, or will ever work well. Am just curious if it can be done.

It can be done, but putting the same time, effort and ammo budget into standard shooting will make you abso$%^&*(ing deadly. Better usage of time, etc.
Add a big pad, make sure the LOP and Drop are OK, and work with the weapon. Lean well into it, your nose should be over your toes of the forward foot. It'll look funny until you note how much faster you recover and re-acquire.
