not an expert, but 45 acp, is what goes in most semi-autos chambered for .45.. 45 GAP is a shorter version that fits in a particular GLOCK. It was made a shorter round to give the pistol a .45 caliber bullet with higher capacity and/or smaller grip. again, not an expert but this is what I have come to understand..and as far as I know..glock is the only gun company that makes a gun to shoot the GAP round. hope this helps.

ACP = Automatic Colt Pistol
GAP = Glock Automatic Pistol

The .45 ACP was developed around 1904 at the behest of the US Army. After some tweaking, it was adopted as the round for which manufacturers had to chamber the pistols they submitted to the Army for test. In 1911, both the .45 ACP and the M1911 Colt Automatic Pistol were adopted as the US standard sidearm.

The .45 GAP is a shorter case, loaded to higher pressure, which is ballistically identical (give or take a bit) to the .45 ACP and was developed to provide a better grip fit in double-column magazines.

ACP= Automatic Colt Pistol, also in 25, 32, 38 Originally designed for the mounted cavalry to be used against other mounted cavalry for its ability to stop a horse.
GAP= Glock Automatic Pistol shorter, yet ballistically equal to ACP and fit in the standard frames
