I think that would make them short-barreled rifles, and subject to a $200 tax stamp. Better to just get a .44mag levergun for the money.

my guess is that it would be a felony to add a shoulder stock to it. BUT....i am not a lawyer

I believe that Uberti made some single-action .44 Magnums with detachable shoulder stocks and 16" barrels.

Any handgun with a detachable stock must have a 16" barrel or longer - or be signed up with the BATF&E. There are a handful of exceptions, such as the '96 Mauser "broomhandle" and some Lugers.
