Walmart cleaning kit?

I bought some universal cleaning kit (think it was DAC) from walmart, was about 18 bucks and it was advertised for having everything for rifles, shotguns, and handguns of all calibers. Opened it up to clean my bore out and it had the wired brushes, some of those clothes, brushes, adapters, and the handle. The thing I noticed is none of the rods are labeled. All the rods fit the .45 wired brush (the brushes are labeled) however the little insert part to put the cleaning clothe through (they are marked .22 and 12 guage). Is this safe to use a rod smaller than intended in the bore?

Yes.

Ok thanks, reason I asked was I was concerned about preserving rifling and wasn't sure if a smaller rod would really be able to make contact or that too large of a rod would damage/scratch it up.

Too large, could.
Too small... as long as it pushes the patch... or brush.
