XD question

Just noticed today on my new XD40sc that the rear sight isn't lined up directly between the centering marks in the dovetail. Being that I haven't shot it yet, (going Thursday) is this something I should expect will need to be adjusted to center? Do the guns get some type of sighting in when they are made or does it seem the sight just wasn't centered up prior to shipping?

I'm not overly concerned as I'll be swapping them out for Tru-Glo night sights shortly, but this being my first Springfield, I am curious what to expect.

I don't know What Sprinfield does. I know most companies site their handguns in at the factory, which is why I haven't really understood all of the need for adjustable sights.

Oftentimes, shooters that want adjustable sights are shooting rounds/bullets with different loads/weights that have different POI's. With adjustables, you just make a few clicks, and PRESTO!

Be forewarned about XD sights: About half of them are in so tight, not even the Hammer of Thor can budge them. Mine were like that. Broke brass punches, broke aluminum punches, then the steel punch threw sparks all over the place, but no movement. Finally had to dremel and hacksaw the OEM sights practically in half before I could punch them out and install Heines. Hopefully yours wont be so tight.

Thanks for the heads up BamBam, that's what I seem to read over and over. I'm going back to the GS tomorrow and see what they say about being off-center. If they have a recommendation on a good smith I'm sure he'll be getting my business for the sights.

PS If anyone here on THR knows (or is) a reputable smith here in Reno, feel free to post. I have a few issues on various toys I need addressed but haven't taken care of since I don't have a go-to guy anymore. I think that was my only regret for leaving Calif, my gunsmith was the best!!
