A buddy of mine came back from New York city with a gift for me. It's apparently a an official police baseball style cap. Not dept. issued, but I guess they sell these now to the public. It has an authenticity tag on it like a baseball team promotional hat usually has so it appears like the real deal and is quality. I live in Indiana, and am not a LEO. Question: If you were a LEO would you be offended by a civilian wearing this hat, or would you feel that's O.K. and a tribute? It's a nice hat, I'd like to wear it.

That depends. Does it say something like NYPD, is it a more generic POLICE, or is this something sold so people can show their support for the police? If I were a LEO I wouldn't bother you if it was of the first or third example I gave, but the second one is almost certain to cause problems.

popeye, wear if you so wish, but I always looked at guys with this kind of stuff as Batmen or wannabes. However, everyone has their own perceptions.

What no Bill Maure(?spelling) replys saying its totaly wrong...trying to steal their thunder and that sorta thing :D. Sorry it was the only show of Politicaly Incorrect I really remember him and Micheal Davenport going on and on about it.

If it says NYPD then everyone around you will know what you are tyring to do. Like here in nashville if you wear one you wouldnt get a second look. Now if you were like in Trenton NJ or on Long Island....then id say uhhhh probaly not a good idea. If it says Police....then I wouldnt wear it much. To me thats probaly just asking for trouble

Nice hat. I wouldn't worry about wearing it. If somebody says something you can always take it off.

I'd say wear it. In case no one noticed, NYPD wears 8-points, not ball caps. I doubt anyone, anywhere, would think you impersonating an officer.

I'm in C A and I see people all over the place wearing NYPD or NYFD hats, shirts and whatever else. I doubt anyone would confudse you for LE. It's kinda trendy to wear that stuff now.

Rigth after 9/11 a lot of people in Puerto Rico used NYPD and NYFD hats, shirts, pins, etc. It was a trend that only lasted a couple of months.
