Check out the website for a more-indepth look: http://www.chesapeake.net/~mcfadden/ccw/
More interesting happenings in Maryland, the highlights:
My question: "Is there an independent audit performed at any regular or irregular interval to insure that the Licensing Division is not discriminating based on sex, race, disability, sexual orientation or other characteristic in any manner?" MSP response: "No."
Again, ~35,000 valid permits are out there, according to the MSP (just had to confirm it, to ensure no miscommunication), but that number cant be supported by 2,417 renewals and 1,778 new permits as in 2001, since renewals are good for 3 years, and new permits are good for 2 years.
I managed to scrounge up the cash to pay for a copy of their procedures manual, a report on the races of permit holders and another on their occupations.
Its getting very, very interesting here. :banghead:
To those that helped, thanks, to those that reside in MD and havent, please step forward and lend a hand.
If you live near a state police barracks, please visit them and ask about getting a handgun permit. Reporting where you visited and their reactions will be helpful, especially if you ask about your chances for getting one for personal protection (try and sneak in a question about who is the right person you need to know to get one). If you dont live near a state police barracks, visit your local Sheriff or PD and ask the same questions, just doing that could help the cause immensely if the right answers turn up.
