I have an issue with this pistol and I want to see if anyone else has experienced it. I have large hands and long thumbs. My left thumb naturally extends the length of the pistol. After I fire about 200 or so rounds through it the take down lever is so hot I have to set the gun down or alternate to a more compact thumb-over-thumb grip. Anyone else experience this???

I have the full sized MP 40 and the compact 9mm. Never had that problem. I use the large grips for my 40 caliber and the medium grips on the compact (for concealability) because I have rather large hands also. I use the straight thumb hold, but haven't ever noticed the take down lever being very hot, even after many rounds.

For those that have this pistol, it is normal behavior according to Mark Rossini of Smith & Wesson customer service
