Picked up a Polish M44 at auction

I picked up a good looking Polish M44 at a local auction for $150. It was missing the cleaning rod and the bayonet. I added the rod and sling. Did they import them that way, or did someone take the bayonet off here. Looks like a good of removing the bayonet, if it was done here. BTW was the value of the polish ones, these days? I know they are harder to find.

You paid maybe 10 or 20 bucks too much, but I would not worry about it. Enjoy the gun! Yours doesn't have the bayonet on it because it was hacked off by a bubba (I think they look nicer without it).

Next, get thee to the ammo store and buy a case of 7.62x54r for a bill and go have fun.

some one probibly took the pig sticker off. some guns like Norinco's SKS's needed to remove the bayonet to make it legal for importation, but not Mosins that i know of.

is your rifle all matching numbers? what year?

it could be a good find, it could be dime a dozen

If someone took the bayonet here in there shop, they did a pretty good job. Dosn't look bad at all.

if you want you can take off the front sight. knock the pins out and replace the lug with a new one and and then mount a bayonet.

7.62x54r.net ranks an a 1952 as a 6 out of 10 on the rarity ( if it was a 1951 it would be an 8)

Where can you find the lug? Numerich list the barrel and lug comming together. Have the rest of the bayonet parts seperate, but not the lug.

however, the Polish rifles are good shooters so enjoy. Cleaning rods are easy to find. Too bad the bracket that mounts the bayonet has been cut off. The bayonet makes a dandy rifle holder while you open your beer or gut your deer.....chris3

I picked up an unissued Polish m44 1952, all matching, basically brand new for about $150. Of course this was 5 years ago. The rifle is absolutely beautiful.

I saw these about 10 years ago at Navy Arms in NJ. All brand new for $75. If I could find one for $150 I'd buy it.

My wife bought me a Polish M44 for Christmas one year.

The workmanship and finish on mine really stands out when in the rack with all of its Russian cousins.

I've been seeing a number of these bayonet-less M-44's making the rounds. Someone got busy with the saw. Easy to fix, though. And the rifle itself is the best M-44.

Out of curiosity, does the rifiling on that M-44 start a bit down the bore? Not as far as a normal counterbore, but just inside the barrel about an 8th of an inch.

I've never heard of such a thing. Is that some Mass rule?
