CDNN has been selling off the newer makes. I have heard they are not up to original reliability, and Ive heard they need a break in period of 300 or so rounds.

Nice looking pistols. Did you find those locally in Atlanta area or get them off the Internet? I've gotten interested in High Standards only recently, and haven't found many nice ones in local shops. Did buy a very minty Sport King, but what I'm after is a Victor. Of course the search is half the fun.--Leigh

Those are both originals from a few decades back. I found them in two different shops in Smyrna, just north of Atlanta.
The new ones are, sadly, High Standards in name only.
The excellent design is still there but the execution is greatly lacking.

I've only got one but it means the world to me. It's the first gun I ever shot, forty some years ago. I was probably five or six years old at the time. It's also the first gun my son shot and hopefully it'll be the first my grandchildren shoot.

you are not the only fan...........the first gun I ever shot over 25 years ago was recently given to me by my Father. It is a sweet High Standard 9 shot .22 6" revolver that proudly takes up a spot in my safe and gets LOTS of range-time!

I have two Hamden Victors, 5" like yours, only mine have solid ribs. I also have a 10B bullpup shotgun. I want a Hamden made 107 with the gold trigger, safety, and mag release, with the 5.5" barrel.

Purists generally prefer Hamden guns over Hartford guns, both are very nice. The Texas guns are crap and should be avoided. One thing to be aware of when you buy older ones is check the slide for hairline cracks - firing HV ammo is believed to contribute to cracking and it's common. The cracks are usually visible on the right side. Magazines are aviailable from Brownells (recent manufacture) and may require some tweaking to get them to work right. The common problem is feeding - and usually the lips need minor adjustment. I have had one that needed metal filed off the bottom to drop free, but that was an oddity.

I've got a bottom-of-the-line High Standard Duramatic with major holster wear, slightly cracked monogrip, a light coating of rust, pitting on the slide and frame, and dings & scratches all over. It was purchased by my grandfather in 1964 at a Montogomery Wards, and very likely neither cleaned nor oiled until I received it nearly 40 years later. Nevertheless, it's surprisingly accurate, feeds anything I give it, and was made in Hamden ;)

Unfortunately, I had one of the newer Texas made High Standard Victor. I liked the gun, but I could just not get it to feed reliably so I traded to my friend as a project gun. Yes, he knew about the feeding problem as we shoot together often, but he wanted to tinker with it. I don't know if he's worked the bugs out or not, but he does have a Texas made Supermatic that he's been able to make extremely reliable. Seems most of the issues lie with the magazine feed lips.

I'd like to find a nice Hamden or Hartford model someday.

No, but if you check the auction sites every other day or so, you'll probably find them. The individual in Texas who now owns the High Standard name may be able to help. It wouldn't surprise me to learn someone's making after-market barrel weights; if so, the best place to find out about them would be Jim Spacek's site.

Randall Fung not only makes the best match pistol stocks I've ever used, but he's a decent, pleasant guy, and delivers within estimate and on time. You could pay more for Herrett's, but you'd like Fung's better.

I have a 107 Supermatic Citation. I found a really nice 103 model but since my buddy wanted one I told him and he bought it (I still get to shoot it). Last fall I got a phone call at work telling me about a like new 106 Supermatic Trophy, but when I got to the store a man was already filling out the paperwork on it. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:


I have still only seen exactly one 10X in my life, and this pistol is going to be passed down to the owners grandson.

B27, they are the crazies. There was a 4" barrelled Victor at Tulsa in April for $600 and it was there when I left. You can ask anything for the gun, but if nobody will give you that much then it isn't worth it. If the gun sells for $900 then it is worth it, but I don't think anyone would give that much.
