I just bought my first, a Glock 22 and have a question. Mine seems to shoot low. I have heard many people say they all do this. Is this true or is it me?

A Glock fan here.

I wasn't happy with customer service the other day when I got yelled at as being "Paranoid" because I didn't like that my brand new mag with my second 22 had a "Restricted LE/GOVT Only" stamp on it. I told them that no matter whether it is illegal nowadays or not I don't care. I want civilian unstamped mags like my other 30 or 40.

Anyways, I own 2 Glock 22's, a 23, and a 27.

The first 22, 23, and 27 are all outfitted with internal Lasermax units and TruGlo TFO sights (you gotta love them).

The 27 also has +cap grip/mag extensions, but that's just for the added capacity. I didn't buy them like some because they find the short grip uncomfortable.

The second 22 is brand new, waiting to be fired at the range. Everything is stock. I'm sure it will be great as well though and will likely get the "star" treatment soon too.

I'm also looking at getting a second 27. I carry the current 27 as my EDC gun, and want a second to have just in case.

I shoot very well with my Glocks, and love the fact that I've never had any type of failure. It's such a difference from the other guns I've owned. I remember failures galore and thinking, "How will I ever know if this could be relied on in a life/death situation?!"

Well - with a Glock - you know. It is there for you. It is ready for action, and you don't want to be on the receiving end of a Glock doing its job. ;)

I LOVE my Glocks.

Sure they aren't the most beautifully crafted gun ever, but it's a gun. A tool. Would you rather have an unattractive power-drill that works every time with precision, or an incredibly sexy power-drill that half the time won't power-up? You get the point.

As for the poster who said his 22 is shooting low. Keep practicing and clean it every time. Try other ammo as well.

I find my Glocks work best with 165 grain .40's. I use 165 grain WWB for range use and 165 grain Speer Gold Dot for defensive use.

You can't go wrong with a Glock. Whenever anybody asks for a relatively low priced pistol that is reliable and won't jam - the answer I always say is, "Go for a Glock, you won't regret it."

I actually have a regret - and that is that I didn't start off with a Glock like somebody told me to do.

I started shooting with a 340PD, and while I got good with it, the bullets jumping the crimp finally ticked me off. I also had a Kahr PM9 which was a jammomatic despite 2 trips to the factory, and I had a Keltec P3AT which was horrible when I first bought it, and after a trip to the factory it was fine, but I still didn't feel I could trust it so I sold it (and all the other guns I mentioned).

For pistols, I will be sticking with Glock. I might be buying a nice 1911 in .40 to have as a family heirloom (pass it down to my kids one day).... something elegant (there's a thread on that right now in autoloaders) and I might try a Kahr MK40 to have as a pocket pistol.... but other than that, it's all Glock. :)

No, it is not true, and yes, it is most likely you. Shooting low often is because you are anticipating the shot. Are you shooting straight down or down and to the left?

Oh, and by the way, I am in. I have owned and carried a Glock 22, Glock 27, Glock 19, Glock 35, and Glock 17.

Yep

universal
March 8, 2007, 09:54 AM
What most likely is happening is that you are anticipating the shot and, without noticing it, you flinch and thereby "dip" the gun down slightly, causing you to fire low. The best way to train to prevent this is to get some dummy rounds and bring a friend to the range. Have the friend load up your magazines, throwing in a dummy round here and there. This way you will not know when the gun will fire and when it will not. Have your friend watch and tell you if you dip the gun when you get to a dummy round. The key is to not anticipate the shot and almost be surprised when it goes off. This works very well for precision shooting.

I hope this helps.

My first and only Glock so far is G26. It is my daily CCW piece with the standard 10-rd mag. The reload for it is a 10+2 Pearce. The nightstand has a G19 mag w/ grip adapter. I also have 2 extra G19 mags and a G18 (33-rd!) mag for the range. It has the NY1 trigger, night sights, and extended slide release.

Holsters for it include a DeSantis Mini-Slide, DeSantis Apache ankle rig, Galco Cop Slide, and a cheapo Uncle Mike's IWB. I carry Hornady TAP FPD 124gr ammo. (Black ammo for a black gun?)

My fiance says its ugly and out of proportion. Got the 26 because I do not know if I am professional enough to carry a fo-tay. :D

Might well 'come out of the Closet'
Well, after resisting for quite a while It seems like I will remain a Glock owner.
I've got a couple Glock 19's.

It started when I would find all these 17's and 19's for $300. I'd buy them, shoot them for awhile, and sell them for $100 or $150 more.
Then I bought a buncha mags for the 2nd AWB.... it just didn't seem right not to have a gun to go with them... so I bought a Sub 2000.

And some kinda way I got tricked into taking a Glock 19 to Tactical Responses fighting pistol. (With the XS sites, GREAT at close range, but I am STILL not convinced at longer range.)

Despite people calling me the Antichrist (It seems I can make Glocks that have never jamed jam, just by being around them, even if I'm not shooting them)

I must admit they are cheap to shoot and easy to clean, and sometimes I find myself pulling one out for this reason...

But the biggest thing they have done is make me haveto have a light rail... so they helped bring about my Kimber Warrior. So I guess I've got to cut Glocks a little slack.

I only have a Glock 21, but have the conversion parts for 10mm and .22lr. If I were to get another it would be a G29 because I have fallen for the 10. I pick the Glock over my other handguns because it's so reliable it's boring and it's a snap to maintain.

I tried to register on glocktalk.com but they won't let me...something about "you may not register on this site with an open proxy connection". I have no idea what that means.

Here is my question for all of the Glock fans on THR. I'm used to having external safeties either on my 1911, Beretta 92, and Ruger P90 and MkI. I would like to get a Glock because they are so simple and reliable but how do I get comfortable with carrying one loaded without worrying about something snagging the trigger. I hear a lot about ND's or AD's when reholstering because sometimes we all have little brain lapses and aren't paying enough attention. Sometimes I'll grab a gun and stick it in my pocket or waistband. Can this be safely done with a Glock? I imagine this has been covered before but I'm fairly new here and haven't had time to search all the threads.

Thank you.

I own five, a 17, 23, 26, 27 and a 30. The lack of a thumb safety has never bothered me. Just keep the finger (same as with any other firearm) away from the trigger and watch what you are doing when holstering (same as any other handgun) it. I'm in the process of thining out my collection so i'm only going to keep one Glock, a couple of other autos and a few wheelguns. They're all great guns, But most of them are safe queens, some of them haven't been shot in two or three years, so i just decided i was going to sell off what i never use and use the money to start building my '58 Chevy stepside.

It ain't easy picking just one. But it looks like it will most likely be the 23 with an AA .22 conversion kit and an aftermarket 9mm barrel.

So what are the top upgrades folks do to their various Glocks?

-Night sights if your gun didnt come with them from the factory
-NY trigger spring for a smoother, lighter pull
-On compact models mag extensions with the extra finger groove
-Rubber grip sleeves
-Extended slide release
-Match grade barrels for serious target shooters

I'm sure I have left out some other common mods.

Glockfan.45: Family Pictures? let me guess your're partial to your G30

I need to get a group shot one day, but to answer your question yes I am quite partial to my 30. It was my "warmish" weather carry gun when I was living in Minnesota.

I think Glock threads with pics are kind of funny, usually the one ones that really look different are the ones that make everyone go UUUUGHHHHHH:p

I have a G19 and a G22.Both have NY-1 + 3.5lb connectors, the 22 has extended slide and mag releases along with a Hi Viz front sight and often wears a Lone Wolf 40-9 barrel. The 19 just has a Trijicon front,a butt plug ( :what: ) and I use either the Pierce mag plates with the bump to fill in the mag well, the only real gripe I have about the thing,or the whomever makes them adaptors for filling out G22/17 mags...it also sports about 20% of its original finish.

Maybe I'm a mutant but I have never had any sort of a problem with the so-called horrible grip angle of the Glock and while they aren't attractive guns, they certainly aren't ugly-sadly they're a bit like American car styling IMO.I like and shoot many other guns better, I have 5 SIG's,3 S&W's,BHP,Walther,Beretta,1911's etc as well but the G19 is what I wear day in and day out because the daggum thing just _works_ and I shoot it well enough.

Its a Glock I have 2 of, so I might as well trade it for something I dont have any of and it doesnt affect my model selection of Glocks.

I really want to get a G20, G21, and G29. I am becoming a 10mm fan after shooting a friend of mines G20 and G29 (HighVelocity on THR). I really want a G20 to use as a hunting pistol.

I'm an old 1911/Browning Hi-Power shooting dinosaur who bad-mouthed every piece of GLOCK Tactical Tupperware that anyone mentioned around me. I discovered I was a PHF (Pig-Headed Fool) the same day I bought my G19. With new Night Sights & a $.25 trigger job...it's my CCW of choice.

My G24 has a KKM Precision .357 SIG conversion barrel and a Burris Handgun Scope. It carries easily in an across-the-chest holster & shoots like a pocket rifle. Perfect for smackin' coyotes at +85 yards while four-wheelin' around the back-side of the farm.

I have a G19. Gonna put a set of trijicons on it next month but I also want a light. The only problem I have is I want a light that is compact like the 19. I would rather it not extend past the muzzle. Seems like most lights are made to fit the full size guns. Anyone know of any that "fit" the mid size ones?

Pics?

You know, I wasn't even going to look at this thread, since most Glocks look alike to me. I probably looked at every picture here. Funny.

Well, I hate to rain on anybody's parade but my only experience with Glock wasn't too good.
Over the years we have been issued a SIG P-220 in .45 acp, a SIG P-226 in 9mm and then the Glock. It was the Practical Tactical in .40S&W. It was the only sidearm that we tried that could'nt hold up to the rigors of tactical training. Jams, failures to load, broken guide rods, etc.
We went back to an all steel 1911 style pistol.

My Glock experience has been different - - I've got a 34 (the 9mm practical tactical) that has held up fairly well. It's been to eight tactical shooting classes without a single (non-administrative) malfunction, using a wide variety of ammunition under a wide variety of conditions.

I have had a parts breakage. Somewhere just past 15,000 rounds my locking block pin broke (see pic). I discovered the failure during routine maintenance, and I have no idea how long the gun had been running in that condition. I keep a supply of spares on hand and the $2.50 part was replaced in a couple seconds. I have also managed to rust out two sets of aftermarket sights, but that's another issue altogether.........:)

Today I went to the gun store, because I wanted some 33 rd magazines, for fmj, fun stuff. I also picked up a hogue slip on grip thing.

I put the grip sleeve on. It nearly brang tears to my eyes. It was hard to get on. But seriously, after I got it mounted ( start at the rear, then pull the front over, slips right on ) it was like night and day. Again, it nearly brought tears to my eyes.

How to make a good thing great. Went from, I like it (?), to, man, this thing is made for my hand. Of course, everyone has a different hand size, so YMMV.

And the 33 rd mags? Makes me glad they gave me a mag loading tool with the G19.

Think I can't wait to try them at the range.

A lot of people out there don't seem to care for the looks of Glock pistols. They usually find the slides and the trigger guards too squarish looking for them. I myself think they are one of the best looking (great tactical look) pistols out there. They are dead reliable and simple in design (the only firearm pistol brand I own that I can fully detail strip (with confidence) and get parts for easily and cheaply). Glocks just have a lot of appeal to me. I own more Glocks than all my other brand pistols I own combined.

The #1 in front of the serial number is because it was one of the recalled ones. The letter after it must be an "E". It has been refurbished. Was this disclosed to you? Did you get a great deal? I think $509 you overpaid. I wouldn't give more than$400. I might say something to the seller if it wasn't disclosed.

There is a very good chance that you are letting your wrists loosen up while going through a magazine and limp wristing.

Is this while you are doing rapid fire drills or slow controlled firing?

briansp82593, your frame has not just been "fixed", but it is an entirely new frame. So you've got a lower-mileage platform than it was before! ;)

Mine is a G-17, E-series, on its way to Smyrna tomorrow to get it's new frame. I actually fired mine to failure, approximately 7500 rounds or so. Not too bad for something with a known problem IMO. Given that it serves 90% of its time as a range gun, I was willing to see what would happen. Come to think of it, I think the rail broke sometime between the first of the year and my discovery of the problem. Never skipped a beat!

I'm contemplating getting a 26 to keep it company. Had one for a spell, then traded it on a .44 Magnum when the big-bore bug hit. Big-bore bug not so strong anymore, but the urge to have something small and easy-to-carry has returned. :cuss:

G19 has night sites, tungston guide rod and 3.5# trigger 2nd gen

G32 3rd gen, night sites and combo light/laser

I would trust my G19 to do anything I asked of it. When I think of reliability in a firearm, I think of my G19.

I just bought a Kimber Ultra Carry 2. To me it is a beautiful gun, and I'm starting to get into 1911's. However, they have yet to earn my trust like the G19.

Since then ive shot many of them and liked them all. I have fired in no particular order models...... 17,19,21,22,26,34 and a few others as well I think

I don't normally mention how many guns I own online, but I'll make an exception here. I have three Glocks, a 21, a 26, and a 36. I will someday own a 34 and maybe a 30. Several years ago I had to accept the fact that I was a Glock guy. I shoot Glocks better than any other autoloaders. I like other brands and other designs; I just don't shoot them as well. A few years back I accepted this fact and haven't bought any non-Glock autoloaders since.

Well, that's not entirely true. Earlier this year I bought a Kel Tec PLR-16, but that was only because Glock doesn't make a handgun chamberd to shoot .223 rifle rounds. Now there's an idea for a new product from Glock...

Rich, I think those sights are TruGlo's: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=20769&title=SIGHT+SETS+for+GLOCK%7e

Looks like the FO is well-protected, but the size of the dot itself is gigantic. I like the proportions of the Dawson Precision FO front sight on my G17 better myself.

I don't have a glock but i do have a glock question. How's the recoil on the model 29?

Mike... recoil in a 29 is of course dependent on the strength of the loading. Warm 10mm loads are pretty stout, but the Glock handles it well... I can't say that I shoot much more than 50 rounds at one sitting with the 29, though, as it's not exactly a pussycat.

Hey Dhart, Is that your primary CCW? How expensive is it to feed that wrist rocket?

Straz... it is among several guns that in my carry rotation. I recently bought a S&W M&P 40 Compact which I tend to carry more because of it's ergonomics.

The other day I, went too shop too pick up some model 17 high caps before the Democrats try, and, maybe succeed in getting the ban again, with V.T. who knows how the winds will blow. After some trading and, wiggling, I, went ahead and, bought a new two tone 17. I had one before and, knew I, would be getting one again but wanted too buy a blued mod. 29 before S&W do away with them again.
As I, sit here looking at it I, can only think how miserable my life can be some times! Whoa is me.;)

but have the conversion parts for 10mm

What parts are needed to convert the 21 from .45 to 10?

Slide, barrel and mags?

Just a barrel and some mags for the most part. Some suggest a heavier recoil spring for the hotter 10mm loads and it was also recommended that I get the newer extractor with the LCI since I had the older one on my 21. All those extra parts are cheap and easy to install on a Glock so I didn't see any harm in trying them out.

I have 3 Glocks. A 22, 23, and a 30. The 23 I carry in a C-TAC most of the year and the 30 also in a C-TAC the rest of the time.

I love Glocks and always will. All my Glocks sport TruGlo TFO night sights.

Went from a Glock 35, to a couple of Sigs, back to my current Glock 19. I am very pleased with it. May pick up a few more before it's all over with (the Glock 20 and 21SF both have me intrigued).

I love my Glock 17, and was actually nervous when I field-stripped it for the first time (I'm afraid I removed too much of the copper-colored slide lube that Glock recommends you leave alone when cleaning), but it's a Glock and they can take pretty much anything. I like the full-size models as they fit my hand much better than the compacts.
