Really bad day at the range

Went to the range to blow off some steam and set the scope on my Contender. I had it all boresighted just like I always do, I line up the crosshairs, and miss the whole 2'X3' target. A few more shots prove that I'm not crazy, the gun is kicking up dust about 10 feet up the berm. So I pull the barrel off, check the boresight, and it's way off. So I convince myself that I never really boresighted it in the first place, and realign the crosshairs. This time I hit right at the bottom left corner of the 2'X3' target with the first shot, and who knows where the second shot went. I check the mount, still solid as a rock. Look down the bore, and the crosshairs are off by a mile again. My scope is kapput. And this is my nice T/C 4X pistol scope:fire:
So I put my cheapo NcStar 2X scope on, bore sight it, first shot about 6 inches low. A few clicks and second shot is dead on, third shot touches the second one, forth shot never leaves the barrel. Trigger goes click, hammer doesn't fall.:cuss:
So I put it away to fix when I get home and start to shoot my .22. Nice nickel sized groups, just the way I want them, when the guy beside me starts rapid fire practice with his AR15 and I get showered with brass. That's it, I'm going home.
I get home, take the Contender apart, and the hammer spring is broken. So now I have a box full of parts that I'm not sure if I can put back together, a spring I'm going to have to hunt down, and a burn on my back where some .223 brass went down my shirt.:banghead:
Some days it just don't pay to get out of bed.

You should have told that guy to watch where his brass is going. Of course, out here, we don't have a range. Some places, you have to watch where the other folks' BULLETS are going.:what:

but I figured with the way my day was going I was better off cutting my losses, putting my tail between my legs and sulking home.

I hate to hear that, Okie. I know you were looking forward to trying out your new Contender.:(

Oh well, just a bad hammerspring that it came with. Easy to fix.

Better luck next time!

Oh relax :).

"REALLY bad" is when you shoot yourself in the foot :D.

This was just annoying :D.

(OK, that didn't help much, sorry, but...it really does pay to avoid "sweating the little stuff".)

Been there Okie ... sympathies dude. Hope to hear the T/C is back on song soon ... and a good report to follow (oops .. part pun there!).

Reminds me of one of my bad range days ..... front top strap screw loosened on Smith revo .... I didn't notice quick enough .. fell out .. lost! Same day ... main spring broke on my Webley mkVI . and that one was a real b*tch to find replacement..... good one anyways. And finally (always the dreaded three!) ...... lost a compo potential win cos of powder flakes under revo star ..... wouldn't close after speedload.

Some days it's just ..... sh*t happens!

I allus say a bad day at the range beats a good day anywhere else.

I didn't get to go to the range. Have had the chance in a long time. I'm looking forward to going on Father's Day (my gift). I'll take a bad day at the range over no day at the range.

That just means you have to go to the gun shop and buy a new hammer spring. And a new gun to go with it!
